Dynamic fracture toughness of PMMA decreases with crack velocity

Submitted by chaumcor on

Dear Alls;

I am loking for the paper which said the Dynamic fracture toughness of PMMA decreases with crack velocity under impact loading, but after crack starts propagation, crack velocity is a decreasing function with crack propagation length.

So, if you know the paper which related to that problem, Could you please show me its title?

Thank you very much,

Best Regards,

 Chau

Any flag to check convergence of ABAQUS analysis

Submitted by An Danh Nguyen on

Dear all,

I need to ouput B stress-strain matrix to text file by using my user-defined element UEL in ABAQUS.  I tried using URDFIL, UEXTERNALDB to do that, however I got a huge file with repetition of B for each increment.  Does ABAQUS have any flag like KUPHVR  in ANSYS to let users know when analysis is complete.

Thank you very much in advance for any suggestion.

 Kind regards.

Danh.

Glass thermal stress and fracture

Submitted by pinew on

I have an investigation on glass fracture in fire.

I have a fortran program and it can calculate the thermal stress with steady-state temperature and force load using finite element method, Now I want to change it to transient temperature and force load.

I wonder which method should be taken? I'd like to calculate the fracture at last.

Please help me!

Thank you very much.

Looking for a PhD studentship with financial support in 2009.

I have strong background in mathematics, mechanics and scientifc programming(c/fortran).

I am interested in program related to CAE, HPC in engineering, numerical simulation, computational mechanics, FEA software development, etc.

Major in Civil engineering, I got my B.S degree in Tsinghua Univ., China, and will get my M.S degree at the end of 2008.

ANSYS qu from new user: help me write a "for" loop please!

Submitted by bumblebee on

Hi: I am a new ANSYS user and would really appreciate help writing a "for"-type loop to go with an example found here:

http://www.mece.ualberta.ca/tutorials/ansys/CL/CAT/BirthDeath/Print.html

At the end of the example is the paragraph below.  I want to know how to do this!  Can anyone modify the code for me?  I don't even know where to start.  I would be very grateful!

mesh refinement for eigen-properties of a cracked body

Submitted by Arash Zamani on

It is a common technique in modelling cracked bodies with finite element method, to refine the mesh near the crack tip. It is mentioned in text books, mesh refinement is nessecary to increase the acuuracy of the computed stress intensity factor for the crack tip. Is meshrefinement nessecary for computing eigen-properties ( natural frequencies and natural modes ) as well as SIF? or eigen properties are not affected much by the near crack tip field?

An Elastic Plate Problem

Submitted by J. K. Phadikar on

It would be very helpful for me if somebody clarifies the following problem: Suppose a beam with simply-supported boundary condition is loaded by uniformly distributed load. One can find out the moment and shear force at any point on the beam by finding forces at the boundaries and then considering equilibrium of some section of the beam.
