Postdoctoral fellow positions in solid mechanics/biomechanics at Dartmouth

Submitted by zichen on

Two postdoctoral fellow positions in solid mechanics/biomechanics at Dartmouth are available from July 2015.

The subjects of research include, but are not limited to, mechanics of morphogenesis in embryos and plants, fast motion of plants (e.g., the Venus flytrap's rapid closure), mechanical self-assembly and instability of thin structures (e.g., DNA, origami structures, plant tendrils, self-assembly of nanostructures, etc.), and bioinspired structures.

CECAM Workshop "Chemical and structural transformations in materials under mechanical load"

Submitted by pastewka on

We are pleased to announce a 4-day CECAM/Psi-k Workshop on

"Chemical and structural transformations in materials under mechanical load",

that will take place at the EPFL campus in Lausanne from Tuesday 1st September to Friday 4th September 2015.

The focus of the workshop will be on materials’ structural and chemical transformations that are caused by external loads and in turn determine the materials macroscopic mechanical response. Particular attention will be devoted to the following thematic areas:

Finding element number corresponding to Fastener in a set in Abaqus

Submitted by pradeeprk on

Hi,
I have a model in which I used fasteners to find bolt forces. I created fastener sets and requested output by changing Domain to "Fastener" and selecting the set that contains Fasteners.
The problem now is, I'm not sure which force corresponds to particular bolt.

Options>Common>show Labels for elements only shows element numbers of remaining model but not Fasteners.

RSS- -Cost-Efficient Open Source Desktop Size Radial Stretching System With Force Sensor

Submitted by Stefan E. Scha… on

The rapid and efficient development of soft active materials requires readily available, compact testing equipment. We propose a desktop-sized, cost-efficient, and open source radial stretching system as an alternative to commercially available biaxial and uniaxial stretching devices. It allows for doubling the diameter of an elastomer membrane while measuring the applied force. Our development enables significant cost reduction (<300 €) and increase the availability of equibiaxial deformation measurements for scientific material analysis.
