acceleration load - wave speed deformation

Submitted by dinogomez on

I am trying to apply a horizontal (x-direction) acceleration force to the bottom surface of a column via a explicit dynamic analysis.  Every time I try to run the program, I get an error what states that wave-speed deformation exceeds 1.0 in some of the elements.  Since I’m not interested in the stress at the bottom of the column, rather the response of the column due to the g-load, should I make the bottom surface a rigid body (or surface if I can)?  The DOF in the x direction is free to translate.  Any tips on how to go about this problem would be appreciated.

The Nobel, Graphene and 20% Google

Only after learning that 2010 nobelists AK Geim and Novoselov* got the
inspiration for Graphene during a 20% time break from "ongoing"
lab research. Did I realize how important is to have a "scheduled" free mind
and open Lab environment.

Does your lab practice "crazy friday" experiments jam sessions like Dr. Geim Lab in Manchester?

Validation and benchmarking problems for 3D fluid simulation with free boundaries

Submitted by martinservin on

I have a hard time finding problem sets for validation and benchmarking of methods and codes for 3d fluid simulation with free boundaries. Please guide me to (standardized) problem sets or key litterture that is a suitable starting point. If there are not many standardized tests I would like to initiate a dsicussion about what a good test collection should be. I understand that iMechanica is focused more on solid mechanics than fluid dynamics but the overlap is big.

"bending stress-strain curve" or "compression stress-strain curve"?

Submitted by mahmood seraji on

Hi

I want to model the lightweight slab and since i do not have the material behaviour of the slab, i have to do testing. i was searching in internet and i got two different concept: "bending stress-strain curve" and "compression stress-strain curve". i do not know which one should i follow? and is there any difference?

Regards.

puzzle in the asymmetric four-point-bend sepcimens.

Submitted by pflines on

HI, everyone,

This is pflines, i am working on the mode I\II fracture toughness.

i want to use the asymmetric four-point-bend sepcimens to get the value of KI and KII,

but did not found a clear formulation to caculate the KI and KII,

 anyone could help me?
