This is my first 2009 article

Submitted by Pi-Gang Luan on

Now I come here again.

From now on I want to share with you my research experiences and personal opinion on  time dependent quantum system, photonic/sonic crystals, and metamaterials.  I would also like to write some articles on science teaching stuff.

I come from Taiwan. Usually I speak chinese, and have no many oppernituties to practice my English, so I wish someone can help me to improve my English. Thanks !

Numerical Evaluation of Crack Tip Opening Displacement (CTOD)

Submitted by SIVAKUMAR M V N on

Hai All,

I want to know how to evaluate CTOD form the finite element nodal
values(displacements) that are obtained from the commercial software
ABAQUS.

I am using Elastic-Plastic model for the analysis. Can anybody help me in this regard.

thanking you in advance,

Bending and 2D Elasticity: Going Back in Time

Submitted by Ajit R. Jadhav on

The following is a (relatively minor) question which had occurred to me more than two decades ago. By now I have forgotten precisely when it was... It could have been when I was in my TE (third year engineering) at COEP. ... Or, perhaps, it was later on, when I as at IIT Madras (studying stress analysis on my own). ... I don't remember precisely when it occurred to me, only *how* it did---it was when I was poring over the first part of Dieter's book.

matlab code for 3D element

Submitted by mahsai on

i have problem in writing matlab code for 3D element to find electric potential at each node

i have the tool surface and workpiece surface and i have to find electric potential in the gap b/w tool and workpiece, for that i assume it as a solid and i took the laplaces equation to find potential i.e

(∂φ/∂x)2 + (∂φ/∂y)2+ (∂φ/∂z)2=0

Bergstroem Boyce Model - inelastic part

Submitted by Andreas Burger on

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience in implementing the Bergstroem-Boyce Model (Constitutive modeling of the time-dependent and cyclic loading of elastimers and application to soft biological tissue, 2001)? I am struggling with the implementation of the viscoplastic part (Network B) of the model:

Help with parametric modelling

Submitted by JayZ900807 on

I want to perform a parametric study, where the geometry of

an object is varied. However, the only catch is that I need to be able to do

this by parametrizing the input file. I have given an example below to more

clearly explain, what I am trying to say.

Let’s just say i have a cube, and i want to define the

distance between two opposite faces by a parameter called 'length', with a value

of 20mm. I know that this would be written in the input file as:

*PARAMETER

length = 20.

METAL CUTTING SIMULATION USING DEFORM 2D

Submitted by vijaysekar on

Dear All,

I am working on the simulation of the metal cutting process using DEFORM 2D.I need some

guidance on the software usage. How do we vary the feed rate / cutting speed for different

operations. Can you help.I am pursuing my PhD currently.Do you have a working manual of DEFORM 2D for metal cutting.

NTVDM CPU has encoutnered an illegal instruction

Submitted by Andreas Burger on

Hi,

I'v been using the Abaqus command window to run my jobs without any problems.

Today, however, I suddenly got the following message:

Intel Visual Fortran Compiler 9.1 Build Environment for 32-bit applications - abaqus job=eightchain user=eightchain_Jaumann

The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

CS:117a IP:0204 OP:63 65 6c 27 3a Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

The header of the message says: 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

Has anyone had a similar problem before???

 Thanks,
