Two Fully Funded Ph.D. Position in Multiscale Modeling of Additive Manufacturing and 2D Materials

Submitted by Kmomeni on

Two fully supported Ph.D. positions are available starting Fall 2022 in Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Lab at the University of Alabama on multiscale modeling of materials and processes. The objective of one project is to model the synthesis of 2D materials to design new processes to improve synthesis efficiency, as well as synthesis by the design of these materials, and to use machine learning algorithms to design materials and their synthesis process. The other is focused on modeling the additive manufacturing processes for in-space manufacturing.

Postdoc position at University of Southern California

Submitted by Hangbo Zhao on

The Zhao Research Group at USC has a postdoc position starting in Summer or Fall 2022 in the area of mechanics and manufacturing of flexible electronic sensors. Candidates with experience in finite element simulation, material characterization, and sensor design and fabrication are encouraged to apply by sending a CV to Dr. Hangbo Zhao (hangbozh [at] usc.edu).

Size effects and failure regimes in notched micro-cantilever beam fracture

Submitted by Parag Tandaiya on

Notched micro-cantilever beam fracture (MCF) experiments are increasingly being used to measure fracture toughness of materials at the micro-scale and draw conclusions about size-effects in them. In our recent paper published in Acta Materialia, 'Size effects and failure regimes in notched micro-cantilever beam fracture', we elucidate the failure regimes in MCF experiments and discuss the conditions for validity of MCF tests.

Experimental Mechanics of Thin Films & Multilayers

Submitted by Aman Haque on

Colleagues: Please consider submitting an abstract to the symposium, "Thin Films and Multilayers: From Microstructure to Device Characteristics" to take place in Porto, Portugal, 2-7 July, 2023. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Topical areas:

• Film thickness and microstructure effects on elasticity, plasticity, fracture and fatigue as well as electrical and dielectric properties

• Strain/light/magnetic field engineering of sensors, electronics

• Mechanics of multi-layered systems (from thermal barrier coating to microelectronics)

Postdoc Position in Computational Mechanics of Materials

Submitted by Ananya Renuka … on

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher with a background in developing continuum models for large-scale deformations. Furthermore, experience in modeling multi-physics systems (e.g., chemo-mechanical coupling, magneto-mechanical coupling) would be a great plus. Please email me (renukaba [at] usc.edu) with your CV and a 3-line statement on your past (and relevant) research experience.
