Nanomechanics: Bridging Spatial and Temporal Scales  

The Extreme Mechanics Letters themed issue onNanomechanics: Bridging Spatial and Temporal Scales aims at bringing together contributions from many perspectives in order to draw a state-of-the-art picture of the field. Interesting rate-dependent effects and transient phenomena in nanomaterials are emerging that augment extensively investigated size effects in mechanical behavior. It is timely to publish a focused set of articles covering Nanomechanics: Bridging Spatial and Temporal Scales.

The themed issue will mainly focus on the following topics: 


  • Deformation and failure mechanisms in nanomaterials.
  • Size and surface effects on elastic and inelastic properties of nanomaterials.
  • Rate and temperature dependent mechanical properties of nanomaterials.
  • Elastic strain engineering of nanomaterials and long time scale reliability issues.
  • Low temperature diffusive-based plasticity mechanisms.
  • Development and application of atomistic and multiscale models for nanomaterials
  • Development and application of experimental methods for nanomaterials.
  • Novel applications of nanomaterials where mechanics plays a critical role.

Manuscript Submission:

Manuscripts should be formatted and be submitted online according to the instructions for Extreme Mechanics Letters in the Guide for Authors.

The authors must select “SI: Nanomechanics” when specifying the “Article Type” in the submission system via http://ees.elsevier.com/eml/default.asp. All submissions will undergo the peer review process. The papers will be published online as soon as they are accepted.

Timelines:
Submission start: 01 September 2015
Submission deadline: 30 November 2015
Acceptance deadline: 31 January 2016

For those who are interested in submitting to this special issue, please would you inform one of the Guest Editors by e-mail by August 15. We would like to have a list of authors who intend to contribute as soon as possible. Also we have received a number of inquiries. To clarify: 1) While a paper that addresses the spatial and temporal effects would be ideal, papers covering all aspects of nanomechanics are welcome. 2) All materials of characteristic nanoscale dimensions are of interest. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.
