Postdoc/PhD opening at MSU

We have an immediate opening for a Postdoc Associate and a new PhD Position for the Fall 2020 in the Laboratory for Soft Machines & Electronics (www.caogroup.org) at the Michigan State University. The research work is highly multi-disciplinary, and specific topics includes: Energy harvesters; Sensors and actuators; Artificial skins; soft (active) materials and machines; printed electronics and batteries.

Qualifications for Postdoc Position:

Applicants for the Postdoc position must hold a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Robotics, Materials Science, Physics or a related field. Design, modelling, fabrication of advanced materials and structures are the desired skills. Candidates with strong background in deformable/wearable electronics, triboelectric nanogenerators, soft robotics, finite element analysis (FEA), 3D/4D printing of functional materials are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in development of surgical robots and medical devices is highly desirable. Skills in using ABAQUS, COMSOL and SolidWorks is a plus, but not required. Candidates should demonstrate a good record of publication, experience of proposal development, and ability of guidance postgraduates and undergraduates in research programs.

Qualifications for Ph.D. position:

Applicants for the PhD position should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Chemical Engineering & Materials Science or related disciplines. Relevant course work and experience on design, modelling, manufacturing, and materials characterization are required. Strong motivation and capability to conduct experimental research independently after training are highly desired.
