Submitted by jeonghoonsong on

Multiple Ph.D. positions are available in the area of Computational Solid Mechanics in the Dept. of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of South Carolina. These positions will begin in August 2011, and fully cover university tuition and stipend.

Ph.D. applicants with a M.S. degree in the area of computational solid mechanics, or structural analysis will be preferred, but exceptional students with a B.S. degree will also be considered. The successful applicants will work on some of the following research topics:

1) Developing computational analysis schemes to predict failure and residual strength of steel structures under various loading conditions

2) Developing computational multiscale failure analysis techniques, and investigating mechanical behaviors of advanced new structural materials

3) Modeling complex structural systems, such as foundation-rail road interaction problems, offshore structures, and wave-energy converters via High-Performance Computing.

Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to e-mail: 1) their CV, and 2) brief statements (less than 2 pages) of their research interests and goals to Dr. Song, j-song2 [at] northwestern.edu (j-song2[at]northwestern[dot]edu)
