Faculty Position in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering invites applications for a faculty

position to begin September 2011. We will consider exceptional candidates in all areas

of civil and environmental engineering who can contribute to the mission of the

Department in advancing knowledge of built and natural systems.

The candidate should have demonstrated excellence in original research. We are

especially interested in candidates whose research approach enables breakthroughs in

the development of sustainable infrastructure (including multiscale physics of materials

and structures; sensing, modeling and operation of complex systems); in understanding

natural or built environments and their interactions (including geomechanics, turbulence

and fluid mechanics, treatment and remediation chemistries) that can serve as the basis

for new technological advances in a range of different fields.

The appointment would be at the untenured assistant, senior tenured associate or full

professor level. Faculty responsibilities will include teaching at the graduate and

undergraduate levels, research, and supervision of student research. Applicants should

hold a PhD by the beginning of the appointment period.

Applications are being accepted electronically at http://cee-search.mit.edu until January

15, 2011. The application should include curriculum vitae, a statement of research

interests together with three publications, and a statement of teaching interests relevant

to civil and environmental engineering. We request that each candidate arrange for

three or more reference letters to be uploaded electronically. Questions should be

directed to Search-Master [at] School-of-Engineering-Faculty-Search.mit.edu.

MIT is building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly encourages applications from

women and minority candidates.
