Postdoc positions in Nonlinear Solid Mechanics, MIT

I am in search of two postdocs to join my group, at MIT, on September 1st , 2017, or earlier. These positions will provide a unique flexibility in choice of research topic which will, in general, target problems in nonlinear solid mechanics. See our group website (http://tal-cohen.wixsite.com/website) for more information on our present research thrusts. Though our primary focus is on theoretical mechanics, candidates with experimental and computational experience are also encouraged to apply.

We are currently seeking a qualified postdoctoral researcher to join our geotechnical engineering team at Mississippi State University (MSU). The postdoctoral fellow will be working with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers at MSU in collaboration with few other institutions to contribute to our ongoing studies on two main modeling themes of geo-energy (e.g., carbon sequestration) and geotechnical engineering in the face of climate change.

Opening for two new Ph.D. students in the Computational Mechanics group, The University of Iowa.

The Computational Mechanics group at The University of Iowa, led by Professor S. Rahman, is looking for two new Ph.D. students, who are capable of and interested in performing high-quality research on isogeometric methods and uncertainty quantification. The research, supported by U.S. National Science Foundation, requires building a solid mathematical foundation, devising efficient numerical algorithms, and developing practical computational tools, all associated with stochastic isogeometric analysis of complex materials and structures. A substantial background in solid mechanics with coding experience in finite-element or similar methods is a must; exposures to uncertainty quantification and probabilistic methods are highly desirable.

PhD vacancy (4 years) on multi-scale fatigue damage modelling of unidirectional fibre-reinforced composites @ Ghent University (Belgium)

The core idea of this fundamental research project is to develop a consistent multi-scale modelling framework for fatigue damage in unidirectionally reinforced composites. Three scales are distinguished: (i) the micro-scale, where individual fibre filaments are arranged in a polymer matrix.

PhD vacancy (4 years) on simulation and testing of short fibre-reinforced composites for application in heat exchangers @ Ghent University (Belgium)

Almost all heat exchangers are currently made of metal. A few attempts have been made to make heat exchangers from (fibre-reinforced) polymers. Switching from metal to polymer/composite can have several advantages:
