EPSRC PhD Studentship at Queen Mary University of London: Thermo-chemo-mechanical modelling of elastomers under extreme conditions

Submitted by Ettore Barbieri on

Dear iMechanicians,

I have a PhD Studentship available for UK settled status residents.

Settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay and been 'ordinarily resident' in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant. This means they must have been normally residing in the UK (apart from temporary or occasional absences) and not been residing in the UK wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education. (This does not apply to UK or EU nationals).

Two PhD positions in computational mechanics at the University of Tennessee

Submitted by Timothy Truster on

Two PhD positions are currently available in the Computational Laboratory for the Mechanics of Interfaces at the University of Tennessee - Knoxville (http://clmi.utk.edu). Research topics are in the following areas:

1. Modeling of aluminum alloys using dislocation density based crystal plasticity methods.

2. Fracture in composite materials using a Discontinuous Galerkin method for debonding

Post-doctoral position at Polytechnique Montréal in the simulation of the shot peening process

Submitted by martin.levesque on

Dear All

I am currently looking for post-doctoral candidates to work on the simulation of the shot peening process by coupling discrete and dynamic finite element simulations. This is a two-year position. The project is in collaboration with 4 major aerospace companies and involved 6 other PhDs and 2 PDFs.

The applicants should have a very strong background in computational mechanics.

Two postdoctoral positions in Mechanics of Materials at Oregon State University

Submitted by jkruzic on

We are seeking to fill two postdoctoral scholar positions at Oregon State University. The ideal candidates will have expertise in one or more of the following: computational materials science, granular mechanics, solid mechanics, and/or mechanical testing of materials. Positions will initially be for 1 year with an anticipated starting date of January 1st, 2015, with the possibility to continue for a second year depending on performance and continued funding.

The successful candidates will:

postdoctoral position - isogeometric analysis

Submitted by sangalli on

IMATI-CNR and the Mathematics Department of the University of Pavia offer a postdoc position on isogeometric analysis. This research project focuses on the design and implementation of innovative isogeometric methods for solid/fluid mechanics.  In particular the target applications are related to

- nearly-incompressible and fibered materials

- fluids in geological formations

This research project is partially supported by the private sector, and is supervised by Annalisa Buffa and Giancarlo Sangalli.

Post Doctoral Research Position in Experimental Biomechanics at the University of Southampton, UK

Submitted by martinbrowne on

The Bioengineering Science Research Group at the University of Southampton invites applications for an 18 month post-doctoral position investigating the mechanical performance of unicondylar knee arthroplasty (UKA).

Postdoctoral Position Opening at Stanford University

Submitted by Cai Wei on

Prof. Wei Cai at the Mechanical Engineering Department of Stanford University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to lead a project on the modeling of grain structure evolution in the surface layer under friction.  The major task of this project is the development of a phase field model for grain/sub-grain structure evolution under friction.  It is likely that molecular dynamics and dislocation dynamics simulations would be required as well to obtain a good physical understanding of the process.
