Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in hydro-fracturing (fracking) is
available immediately at Masdar Institute of Science and Technology in Abu
Dhabi in United Arab Emirates. Masdar Institute is established in collaboration
with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The research project focuses on
using advanced computational fracture and damage mechanics for simulating
hydro-fracturing of rocks in hydrocarbon fields. The candidate is expected to
have a PhD in the field of geomechanics, or civil engineering with solid
knowledge of hydraulic fracture mechanics and excellent theoretical and
A fully funded PhD studentship is available at Cardiff University within the College of Physical Sciences in collaboration with Computational Mechanics and Computer Sciences and with the opportunity to work jointly with Inria, France.

One-year postdoctoral research on the fracture mechanics of bone is available at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. The project is a joint research between UBC Biomaterials (biomaterials.MTRL.ubc.ca) and the
Centre for Hip Health and Mobility (www.hiphealth.ca). The research is a combination of experimental studies (failure analysis,
mechanical testing, micro-CT imaging, laser scanning confocal microscopy
We are seeking a motivated PhD student (only a student currently in the US for an immediate start) to work as a Graduate Research Assistant in our NSF project titled "Metamaterial-Enhanced Electroelastoacoustic Energy Harvesting for Sensor Systems." This computational and experimental project will investigate electroelastoacoustically coupled linear and nonlinear metamaterial-inspired piezoelectric energy harvesting concepts for self-powered sensor systems.
The project deals with the development of a novel procedure for quantitative validation of finite element simulations with full-field optical strain measurements like digital image correlation. The work will be shared between numerical simulations and experimental work. This project has strong industrial relevence. Please note that the project can only be offered to EU/UK students.
Position is available (starting from
January 2014) for a postdoctoral fellow to carry out an industry sponsored
project on carbon fiber composite modeling in Prof. Liying Jiang’s lab at the
Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department of the University of Western
Ontario in Canada. The contract is initiated for one year, with possible
extension if work progresses satisfactorily. The research will focus on (1)
micromechanics modeling of elastic and viscoplastic behavior of injection
molded carbon fiber composites; (2) homogenization techniques and constitutive model
development for vibration, strength and impact simulations of carbon fiber
A postdoctoral associate position is available immediately at the Computational Nanodynamics Group at Northwestern University. This research project focuses broadly on the atomistic and meso-scale modeling of biomolecular materials and their interfaces with engineered polymers. Nanostructural predictions, self-assembly studies, and simulations of mechanofunctional behavior constitute the scope of the project.
