A multidisciplinary research team from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, is recruiting PhD students.

Two post-doctoral positions are available in the lab of Sachin Velankar in the Dept. of Chemical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh to conduct experimental research on the biomechanics of surface texturing in cephalopods (octopus or cuttlefish), and to devise reversibly-morphing surfaces.  These animals are famous for their camouflage abilities.  Like many other animals, cephalopods can change their color, but in addition, they can also change the texture of their skin by expressing protuberances or wrinkles.

The Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences seeks highly qualified applicants for a post-doctoral research position in experimental mechanics.  The successful candidate will participate in a project to make ultra-high-temperature calorimetry measurements on nanoscale quantities of materials. This apparatus will be used to study phase transformations in complex ternary and quaternary materials systems.

(S$2000/month, S$2500/month after confirmation) for the entire 4 years
of PhD candidature.

The
research  topic is “Energy harvesting using smart materials”.  All PhD
students are required to pass the qualification exam by 18 months.

Two PhD scholarships are available at DTU Mechanical Engineering, Section for Solid Mechanics, in the field of fatigue and wear in rolling and sliding contacts. One has focus on computational stress and damage modeling, while the other has focus on elastohydrodynamic lubricant film modelling and experimental verification.
