Needed: Dielectric Elastomer transducers made to spec

Submitted by bpfilardo on

My company urgently needs to identify an individual or organization who can
fabricate a couple of hundred small Dielectric Elastomer transducers for an
R&D project.  The work could be done under contract.  We have
started making our own but it is becoming clear there is a learning curve plus
much trial and error and we are short on time.

If you think you might be able to make them or if you can suggest

Bifurcation Analysis in Abaqus

Submitted by AliADawood on

Hello Everyone,

Im relatively new to Abaqus and I have to carry out a bifurcation analysis of a pipe. Once that is done I need to add the imperfection wavelength and amplitude calculated to the pipe and carry out further simulations.

Ive been trying very hard to get a direction as to where to start with it. Can anyone please help me with it? I know that you need to carry out a buckle analysis that will give you a wrinkle pattern on the pipe. This inturn will add up to the bifurcation scheme that you get.

What is the crack-tip stress intensity factor of an embedded crack under mode II shear?

Submitted by Rui Tao Qu on
Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica

Hi,

From textbook of fracture mechanics, we know that for an embedded crack subjected to mode I stress state, KI=(2/π)σ√πa, while 2a is the crack size.

But for a embedded crack subjected to a pure shear stress τ, what is the stress intensity factor at the crack-tip?

Thank you

Submitted by Mike Ciavarella on

I received this letter from Prof Davide Bigoni

Marie Curie PhD position at University of Trento (Italy): deadline September 15

It is a top opportunity in Italy, the leading group in Italy in elasticity, plasticity and nonlinear elasticity. A very active university and town.

I expect many applications.

Python code for cohesive pressure

Submitted by mgchavez77 on
Hi everyone,

I'm working with cohesive pressure elements and I'm wondering if anyone know the code to run the element type COH2DP using Python.

I used the code:

elemType_hf=mesh.ElemType(elemCode=COH2D4P, elemLibrary=STANDARD)

Part.setElementType(regions=region, elemTypes=(elemType_hf, ))

but the code doesn't work.

I guess the problem is that I need to include the offset nodes but I don't know the code to incluide it. I'll appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance

Bulge test at nano-scale: The surface effects

Submitted by tongqing.lu on
Bulge test is an effective technique to measure the mechanical properties of thin films. As the membrane size decreases to nano-scale, the surface effect plays a significant role in determining the mechanical behavior of the membrane, and the techniques commonly used to measure the bulk materials properties are not applicable. We explore the surface effect on the nano-scale bulge test using combined continuum theories and atomistic simulations. We formulate the load-deflection relation by incorporating the surface effect and analyze its size-dependent behavior. The present theoretical model is in quantitative agreement with the molecular dynamics simulations.
