Looking for an equivalent indentation modulus for composite

Submitted by Khong Wui Gan on

Dear all (and Prof. Ciavarella, if you can see this),

I am looking for an equivalent indentation modulus for orthotropic composite materials in a contact problem. Does anybody has any reference or equation to get the value?

How to design ,correlate and document the finite element analsyis into experimental data

Submitted by durgamadhaba on
Dear Sir,

I
am Durgamadhaba Tripathy need help in modeling and simulate in ansys
APDL. My work is small punch test.My material is 2.25Cr-1Mo steel
punched by AISI D2 Steel. If you don't mind I can attach the respective .iges files. My problem is to analysis multiple bodies with different sets of poissions ratio and elastic modulus.

Again I am having
doubt on how to simulate the FEM data with that of actual experimental
ones. is it possible to get the data points so that i can plot against

(Update a new question) Need Help! Bending beam under follower axial force

Submitted by striver2012 on

New question!

I want to explore the same problem in two-dimensional structure (e.g. thin plate).

According to Love simplification, the cross section rotates but the shear

deflection is neglected. This means the edge cross section is not

vertical actually. Can I still assume the shear force on the edge cross

section is always vertical?  e.g. free boundary condition on a circular plate under a concentrated in-plane edge force.

Vumat for Rousselier model (damage model)

Submitted by Sutham_eng on

Dear Everyone,

Now, I am writing Abaqus’s subroutine (Vumat) for modelling fracture and damage in Ferritic Steels.

The failure theory I have to use in my PhD research is the Rousselier’s Theory.

I try to write Vumat by following the procedure of Rousselier model integration in PhD thesis namely ‘3D CAFE modelling of transitional ductile - brittle fracture in steels’ that can see from http://seis.bris.ac.uk/~mexas/thesis.pdf (Appendix.B).

passing away of Prof. Maurice Jaswon

Submitted by Mohsen Dashti on

Dr. Martin at Colorado School of Mines alerted us the unfortunate news of the passing away of Prof. Maurice Jaswon, a pioneer of boundary integral equation/boundary element method. An obituary is published by the London Daily Telegraph:

non-convergence of result

Submitted by shijo_iitr on

i want to carry out a nonlinear static pushover analysis for a concrete dam, i'm using the concrete damage plasticity model for the above. i'm able to carry out the frequency analysis for the model, but after applying any kind of load the the job gets aborted in both static analysi and static riks analysis.

in static analysis it does not converge, whereas in  static riks analysis it says a zero displacement step ha been encountered and analysi cannot proceed..

can anyone please help me out tof this..

thanks in advance
