investigation on mechanical properties of clay-polymer nanocomposites

Hi all

I have a question and need for guidence.

I' m working on mechanical properties of polymer based nanocomposites as my thesis. I'm a beaginer in open sourse FEM programs.

I want to modele clay, polymer and specialy interactions between them to investigate bending properties and enhancements.

Is it possible for me to use commercial programs like  ABAQUS? Which programe do you prefer?

I will appreciated if any one could help me to identify witch method is more suitable for investigation in this field.

The Paris equation

The  Paris equation should correctly be referred to as the ERDOGAN-PARIS equation, maybe some more names may be needed.
LEFM is a term bandied about in the text books, but very few texts  know how to define what it means and how it applies.
You can take my course.  What happened to the earlier posts about my course.

Domain structures of ferroelectric nanotubes controlled by surface charge compensation

Ferroelectric nanotubes have potential application in inkjet printing and drug delivery due to their piezoelectric property and unique geometry. For different applications, different electrical boundary conditions are applied to ferroelectric nanotubes. In the present work, domain structures in ferroelectric nanotubes (FNTs) under different electrical boundary conditions are predicted through a phase field model. Simulation results show that domain structures are highly dependent on the compensation of polarization-induced surface charges.

How to execute a python function in abaqus

Does anyone know how to execute a python function in abaqus?

If I have a python function, I can input the dimension of the structure and the generate a Abaqus model. However, I don't know how to execute this python function in Abaqus.

 For python script, it just type

abaqus cae script=myscript.py

But if it is a function, how to call it using Abaqus?

Simple ABAQUS beam contact problem (errors)

Hello,

 

Just started ABAQUS last week.  How can I model to beam that contact
each other?  They just seem to go through each other, and when I define
interaction contraints as "ridgid" bodies the I get several errors.

 

Does anyone have a link or a copy of a tutorial I could go through showning exactly how to run a contact element case?

Time dependent vs Independent

In Computational mechanics, for rate(time) dependent calculations (eg. Creep, plasticity), when we say time step dt, does it mean physical time.

Can I think this way:

I start at time 0 and calculate stress, strain etc  after 1 sec, 2 sec, 3 sec..

Also, what exactly is strain rate? why do some books say ..'when a strain rate is applied'''..I'm confused..dont we just apply displacement or force all the time.
