The Study by Mr. Wu etc Concerning Saint-Venant’s Principle is Insignificant

Submitted by Jian-zhong Zhao on

The paper titled "The Study by Mr. Wu etc  Concerning Saint-Venant’s Principle is Insignificant" reviewed the series of four works of “proof of Saint-Venant’s Principle” published by Wu etc .The four articles proved neither the discrete Saint-Venant type decay of section-forces of the finite elements in the chain model of discretization of the cylinder  nor  the discrete Saint-Venant-type decay of section-displacements, posed in their papers. Furthermore, the discrete Saint-Venant type  decay of section-forces  is not provable.

Dear All

I'm working on studing the use of metal foam in sandwich structre containing Al or steel plate to overcome an impact shells or plates at differnet impact velocity but the prblem that I face how to define the failure critrion of Meat foam except difine the crushable foam properties, and I've read a paper on using cohesive element but i don'nt know how to use it.

Hopefully some one can help me solving this prblem, by the way I'm using ABAQUS v6.6

Geometric Design, Computer Graphics, and FEM

Submitted by N. Sukumar on

I recently participated in a minisymposium (SIAM Conference ), where geometric modeling, graphics, and finite elements were the focus. Over the past 4 to 5 years, there has been a lot of interest in the construction of barycentric coordinates on polygons/polyhedra, and the minisymposium brought together many of us with common interests.

How to create a precrack

Submitted by Joe cherian on

Dear Fellows,

I am trying to develop a new testing method for analysing the interfacial fracture toughness. The problem I face is to create a precrack.

if I use a stainless steel substrate and TiN or chromium coating on it, which is the best method to create a precrack?

 Please give your sugestions.

Bonded joints

I started to use ABAQUS some months ago. I'm trying to simulated a composite bonded joint, but I'm having some problems to use cohesive elements to get the correct stress between the adhesive and the adherents. Unfortunately, I don't have a tutorial about the cited subject. I'm using the ABAQUS version 6.7.

Please, anyone of you can help me? I really need to now how simulated correctly a bonded joint.

Variational Theory: Variable-independence and Consistency

Submitted by Jian-zhong Zhao on

Variational theory of elasticity is surveyed in the context of mathematical logic in the present paper titled "Variational Theory: Variable-independence and Consistency" . The problem of variable-independence of variational principles raised by Professor Chien Wei-zang is discussed.
