Tightening
guitar strings to change the sound uses the same principle as tightening head
bolts to change the dynamic response of an engine block assembly. This is
stress stiffening and it affects the dynamic response of a structure. One of
the fundamental components in assessing nonlinear static stress is stress
stiffening, but it is also the most overlooked when evaluating the steady-state
dynamic response of engine assemblies.
My thesis is about ship grounding. In this phenomenon, ship hit a rock. I can simulate this problem in Abaqus/Standard,without wave effect. But in reality there is water and waves. Can I simulate this problem with ABAQUS? Is it possible to define water(or wave) aruond ship and rock?

I've made a 3D multi-story frame and shear-wall model in Abaqus. So far, I wanna get the equivalent story mass, story stiffness and story modal displacement. how to extract the story mass and story displacement in Abaqus? or how to make an equivalent multi-mass point system from original 3D multi-story model?
I've modelled a DCB specimen and applied Boundary conditions and load... I followed the same procedures given in abaqus documentation... As expected the crack initiates and propagates along the interface... I can get the Resultant force vs displacement plot from the analysis.. But i dont know how to plot the fracture toughness vs crack length plot in ABAQUS..
Please help me... Your suggestion would really help me a lot..
I am modeling a 3D simply supported beam in ansys using a SOLID95
element. In this case, how should I give
the B.C.s? Should I apply B.C.s to
1) the mid nodes on the edge of beam? or
2) to the entire edge? or
3) just to the bottom nodes?
according to me, I have tried to use the various B.C case, but the
results are very different even though the nodes number taken in account
change slightly, and for all case, the result is not satisfactory with
my analytical solution. plz help.
I am running a abaqus job to simulate the failure mechanism of a pile-foundation system. The material used is mohr-coulomb soil. I found that if I use multiple cpus for the calculation, I got different results each time (at the step which does not converge). However, If I just use single cpu, there is no such kind of problem, each time I got the same results.
Anyone else has this experiences before? I am quite confused.
I have a question regarding Ansys solution divergence in nonlinear static analysis, with geometry and material nonlinearities. In this case the model is shell but that should ba valid for bricks as well.
as title says, does anyone knows how to fix a limit to the time that an abaqus job takes to be calculated.
this is because i am running several jobs sequentially, and i want to set that for instance if some job takes too much time, just stop it and go to the next one.
A discrete damage mechanics (DDM) model is now available as a UGENS/UMAT implementation for Abaqus/standard. This is an analytic constitutive model for laminates composites, based on discrete fracture mechanics. I am new to the FSI interaction module in abaqus, i wanted to know how to go for it, as i have modelled structure embedded in the soil domain using abaqus standard /explicit model and on which i have to model fluid striking the structure as well as the soil layer i have to use only Abaqus CFD model , iam not sure how could i model fluid in the CFD model what kind of interaction in between abaqus standard and abaqus cfd model and how could i make interaction, also how to install FSI module in abaqus cae?? it's knid of surge water striking structure!!
I am running a simple thermal tension coupon test with two steps.
Step 1: Apply a 10 lbs load on the coupon at certain temp.
Step 2: Keep the strain constant and reduce temp ( the material would
try to contract but I must keep the strain constant by increasing load)
Is there a way for me to do step 2 in abaqus and have it predict the load or stress required to maintain constant strain?
My name is Paula , I am new user in CFD coupled with ABAQUS. I would like to know and understand how can I simulate cell wall filled with of water. If the tank sloshing example good way to start with cfd/ABAQUS? .
The problem
is that the cytoplasm ( high % is water) has an internal pressure. I
would like to make the simulation with outside presure ( hydrostatic pressure)
and find which is the outside pressure to brake the cell
wall and the cytoplasm gets free.
I am doing my diploma project and I have to model an off-shore oil-rig in Abaqus. It's a metallic truss-type system. I've defined all of the elements composing the structure as wire elements and the decks as solids. Does anybody know how to define the contact between the decks and the supporting beams? The decks are supposed to be bolted to the beams.

i work on a bio mechanic project. i am going to simulate a mandible bone
with implant. at first i want to use Materialise Mimics V10 to convert Ct Scan
data of a mandible without implant to a 3D model. i thought i could edit
the exported file on the other software (Ansys or Abaqus) to add the
implant. but, exported file from mimics can not have any edit .Actually
it has not volume and i need to have a 3D solid model. please help me !
