Modern and open finite element code

Submitted by likask on

Hello,

MoFEM is open and free finite element code. See short video showing how easy you can install code form scratch https://youtu.be/6opfKER7JHA. MoFEM web page is avaliable here http://mofem.eng.gla.ac.uk. If you are intersted in contribute to MoFEM code or simply use it let us know. Feel free to aks any question.

Negative Eigenvalues due to Mesh Refinement

I will keep my post brief to begin with.

The model consists of 7 rectangular interference fits (with 2 of the surfaces in direct interference).  The model appears to be working perfectly fine at simulating the stresses induced due to the fits for a variety of mesh sizes.  Once the mesh sizing of the slave components is reduced to below 0.4 the job fails due to experiencing negative eigenvalues.

To summarize - how can mesh refinement cause cause failure in a working model?

What is static riks solver?? Please explain in details.. As I am a learner of abaqus I get problem understanding some things, like arc length,  increment in static riks etc.. I find that it is very useful for simulating collaps behaiour.. I wish to do a thrust experiment regarding geological setup... Please help and guide me..

Thank you

Modeling finite number of mass/stiffness systems on an elastic media

Hello,
I have to model finite number of springs with point masses on a soil layer in Abaqus representing resonators. I tried to use Reference Points on the soil layer and some Reference point above the layer and connect them with Spring/Dashpots using connecting two nodes option, I chose Line of action for the spring, then I add stiffness. In the next step I applied Point mass as inertia to the reference points above the soil.

How to call UEXTERNALDB subroutine

Submitted by Fausto Tucci on

Hi, I'm new user of ABAQUS. I'm trying to develop a model that involve one further output variable (the degree of cure of a polymer). I thought to use the subroutine UEXTERNALDB to write and read from an external file the array containing the values of this output variable in each element. But I couldn’t find out how to call this subroutine in the .inp file. Does anyone have any suggestion for my problem?

Thank you

Cant solve "too many attempts made for this increment"-issue on some models

Hello at all,

I have some serious issues with some of my models in Abaqus 6.14. I need to simulate shear failure to investigate the influence of concrete strength and fracture energy on the size effect. So far, everything went good. I calculated almost 100 models without any problem with exactly the same model (only materials changed). But: For the combination of concrete strength fck=50MPa and a fracture energy of Gf=60N/m or Gf=80N/m, the calculations will stop after a short time although the .odb file shows only some minor bending cracks in the beam
