Image Based Modeling for Biomedical Implant Design

We'd like to share a recent publication based on our software, which converts 3D volumetric image data into computational models; this article, published in partnership with MSC Technology, highlights how we've been able to produce successful FE models for biomedical implant design.

We have more case studies and information available on our website - www.simpleware.com - where you can also download a free 30 day trial of our software.

Abaqus help

Dear all,

I'm doing a dynamic analysis and optimization of high speed railway bridges. After developing the abaqus input file (*inp), the following errors have occured and I was unable to solve them. I have attached a picture showing the node number that I used to model the train. the car body and the bogies are model as a rigid body in which nodes 6001,6004 and 6501 are the reference nodes.

1. An overconstraint problem. it says "Zero pivot when processing Node 6004 d.o.f 2, node 6004 d.o.f 6 and node 6001 d.o.f 6

Abaqus step definition

Hello everyone.. Consider a cantilever for sequential load steps in abaqus.
Fist step I want to apply imposed displacement of 2mm at free end.
2nd step I want impose +/-6mm Z displacement at free end (total 3
cycles. (One cycle= +6 and -6 mm in z direction)

Can somebody let me know how to do this. how to define two steps ?

Thank you in advance

Vasant

TSHR output problem

Dear colleagues,

I have one question concerning the TSHR (transverse shear stresses) output request in application of Thick Shell S8R elements in Abaqus/standard.

the follow qarning occurs:  Output request tshr is not available when *transverse shear stiffness is specified on the *shell section definition or a material in the shell has been defined without *elastic

Can anybody please help with an advioce or two, on how to solve this?

all the best

how to link abaqus with matlab ?

You should access the abaqus results (*.fil) file via MATLAB.
In order to take your results into a fil file you should specify *FILE FORMAT, ASCII along with *EL FILE and/or *NODE FILE, etc. options in your abaqus input file (assuming that you run Abaqus/Standard).

Abaqus python scripting, booleanmerge section assignment

Hey,

I am writing a python script for modeling aggregates in a concrete cylinder. I have created a all the particles and and specified section properties to them and to the  cylinder.

The procedure I am using is to merge the particles and the cylinder while retaining the boundaries. If the sctions are assigned to the parts before merging, the result is the cylinder with the specified section assignmentsfor each part.

I wrote the code in python but seems like it does not include the section assignment to the new part from merge.

what's the best EOS for modelling Methane in the room? and how can gain its parameters?

how to model ply dropoffs using continuum shell in abaqus

I am trying to model ply dropoffs of composite materials ,because I am working on a contact problem of bolted joint,so I choose continuum shell rather than shell ,but it seems that the ply thickness will change at a ply dropoff region. Does anyone knows how to solve this problem?

Abaqus user subroutines - migrating to version 6.12

Hello,

I have a user subroutine (UEL) written in Fortran that was running correctly when I used Abaqus V6.5 (in XP) and Compaq Visual Fortran to compile.  I was running as abq654 job=s00 user=abafer.for inter.

Now, I want to migrate to WIN7 and use Abaqus 6.12 with the same user subroutine. I read the manual on 6.12 and the interface for user subroutines has not changed. So no issue there. Indeed, when I run the user subroutine as abq6121 job=s00 user=abafer.for inter, the program runs successfully.

"Eclipse" which can replace Visual studio for Fortran/C/C++ debugging, compiling

We usually use Microsoft visual studio's version to do Fortran/C/C++ coding. Many reserachers are facing problem with versions, appropriate compiler or even with copyright issue. "Eclipse" can replace VS in everyway. The advantages are:

I need to model a shell element which its task is just load

I make this element with these properties?

Abaqus - Please help!

Hello,

I am a bit confused about a simulation of brittle cracking presented in "ABAQUS EXAMPLE MANUAL" 1.1.5 Collapse of a concrete slab. I was trying to re-simulate the example on my PC and I got really weird results force (RF3) vs. time read in the support point.

Please have a look at attached picture. I download the file mnneice_5.inp from Example 1.1.5 calculated and got totally different resuls. Does it have something to do with setting of my Abaqus software?

Can somebody do the same and check this out?

Thank you very much for any help!

Submitting number of job at once in Abaqus

To solve several consecutive run automatically by abaqus can get help from the following program:

http://mmd110.persiangig.com/Abaqus/abqscript.bat

First file in the file path. Inp place available.

Then run the file name. Inp file and cpu, and the amount of RAM required by the MB session.

Inp file name (without extension and tandem) and enter them below, separated by a space.

Note: Before entering the first name inp file, insert a space.

How to analyse a microstructure using ABACUS

hi can anyone know how to analyse a microstructure in ABACUS,what are all the preprocessing steps we have to do before solving in abacus like (how to convert into cad model, meshing etc)

Dassault Systèmes welcomes Safe Technology!

We're very pleased to announce that Dassault Systèmes has acquired Safe Technology, Ltd., the developer of the fe-safe durability simulation application suite.

Even if you haven’t used their products, you’ve probably heard the name – Safe Technology
has been a partner of ours for over 15 years, providing a fatigue
solution to Abaqus users through fe-safe. As an add-on to Abaqus/CAE,
fe-safe uses proven techniques to accurately determine the fatigue life
of metal components under complex cyclic loading. fe-safe combines

Heat transfer solver?

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Dear colleagues,

I would like to ask you about heat transfer solvers, but first i have to descirbe my problem:

I would like to solve some small case: a simply supported beam (or any other structure), exposed to uniformly distributed load (or any other type of loads) and fire conditions (i.e. heat transfer: steady-state/transient, linear/nonlinear) = complex analisys of such case - structural cases.

And now question:

Which solver with user-friendly interface or without could you recommend? What about free software?

Frictional rolling contact model CONTACT version 13.1 released

Abaqus works well with fortran90????

I know this  question is a not new one and it has been posted before. But these posts seems not completely answer this question. I tested  for77 and for90 codes for isotropic elasticity respectively. The analysis based on for77 codes runs successfully and the for90 codes can be compiled successfully.  However, the analysis based on for90 codes shows the following warning:

(ansys) why can't I get contact result if bulk material is defined by usermat?

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

hi everyone:

I  tried to perform a cohesive zone analyse in ANSYS, followed the turorial in HELP file. I used contact element to model cohesive zone. I found out that:

1, If I use standard material of ansys to define bulk element, like defined by 'mp,ex,1,2.1d5' or 'tb,biso', I can get a reasonable contact result;

2, If I use usermat file to define bulk element, 'tb,user', then the solusion also is done, but the resulte seems not correct, two part of model are not contact, some sections of them are coincide.

Abaqus - prescribe surface radiation

Choose a channel featured in the header of iMechanica:

Dear all,

I have a problem assigning surface radiation to my model. Lets say the model consists out of two same size cubes. I want to simulate one cube sliding on top of the other. So lets say in the beginning the lower cube is covered 50 % by the upper cube and at the end it is covered 70% by the upper cube. Hence, at all times a part of the surface of the lower cube is free to the environment and another part is covered by the upper cube. However, due to the sliding process the free surface is changing in time.
