A summer school on Nonsmooth Contact and Impact Mechanics. Aussois. September 2012

Submitted by vacary on

Dear Colleagues,

A summer school on Nonsmooth Contact and Impact Mechanics is organized from September 10 to 14 at Aussois in the French Alpes. The main focus of the school will be on modeling and numerical/simulation  aspects,  and the following topics will be covered:

Algorithms for contact detection in time-stepping numerical methods

Convergence of time-stepping methods

Multiple impacts in multibody systems

Painlevé paradoxes

Waves in chains of balls

Simulating large fiber assemblies such as hair

ABAQUS/Explicit - define the number of calculation frames (default is 20?)

Submitted by pirs on

Dear fellows,

I am performing quasi-static analysis on ABAQUS/Explicit and I would like to know how one can change the number of time frames used in calculation. It is my understanding that the default value is 20 frames, but I would like to increase this number, if possible.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks for any input in advance.

Cheers.

How do Italian Universities compare with British Universities, and the importance of Charles Dickens.

Submitted by Alan R. S. Ponter on

Mike Ciavarelli and I discussed the possibility of doing a comparison of Italian and British Universities. On reflection, I could not decide where to begin but wrote the attached. It is part personal experience, part history and part Charles Dickens who was born 200 years ago today. If you don't understand the connection, read on.

IMECE 2012: Minisymposium on Multiphysics Simulations and Experiments for Solids

Submitted by Harold S. Park on

Dear Colleagues:

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract for the 2012 ASME

IMECE in Houston, to be held November 9-15, 2012.  Our minisymposium

is on "Multiphysics Simulations and Experiments for Solids", and is the

continuation of a very successful minisymposium held for the past 5 years

that have resulted in more than 40 presentations at the 2009, 2010 and 2011 IMECE conferences.  This year's focus areas

are:

1.Multiphysics modeling, simulation and experiments of electromechanical materials and systems
