MS/PhD RA positions, U Tennessee Knoxville, Statistical homogenization & multiscale failure analysis

Submitted by rabedi on

I have up to 4 open positions (funded by the department of defense and other sources) for MS or PhD (preferred) students at the University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK). Almost certainly, I cannot hire a postdoctoral fellow. The positions should start in Fall 2022 or at the latest Spring 2023. One of the positions requires US citizenship.

All projects use Multiscale stochastic homogenization of materials using statistical volume elements (SVEs) to some extent.

I have a few positions (funded by AFRL, ARO, etc) for MS or PhD (preferred) students at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) and University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK). The positions should start in January 2022 or at the latest Fall 2022. One of the positions requires US citizenship. The projects are in the following general areas:

I have a few positions (funded by NSF, AFRL, and/or ARO) for MS or PhD (preferred) students at the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) and University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK) in the following two topics:

1. Elastodynamic metamaterials: Characterization of dispersive constitutive equations and simulation of the material with overall properties in the time domain (TD), analysis of the effect of disorder and material nonlinearities (e.g. fracture) in their performance, etc.

PhD position on computational mechanics (preferably with solid mechanics focus)

Hello,

I have a PhD position available for a project titled " Asynchronous, Parallel-Adaptive Solution of Extreme Multiscale Problems in Seismology" funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The graduate research assistantship (GRA) position is for the University of Tennessee Space Institute (UTSI) which is a part of University of Tennessee Knoxville (UTK).

This project is conducted in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urabana-Champaign (UIUC). Some of the main components of this project are,

Hello,

I have a PhD position available for a project titled "Asynchronous, Parallel-Adaptive Solution of Extreme Multiscale Problems in Seismology" funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The research involves:

a. Formulation of contact / fracture models (interfacial and/or bulk) for seismic applications, e.g. anisotropic, inhomogeneous rock under dynamic loads.

b. Adaptive spacetime time discontinuous Galerkin formulation for the solution of multiphysics PDEs relevant to this application.

c. High performance computing aspects of the method.

Hello,

I have a PhD position available for a project titled "A stochastic and computational approach for fracture modeling of quasi-brittle materials" funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). This project homogenizes material properties using the so-called stochastic volume elements (SVEs). Based on the enderlying statistical properties derived from these SVEs, realizations of certain material properties are generated. These realizations are subsequently used for stochastic characterization of fracture response in quasi-brittle materials.
