Simpleware Australia Workshops

Submitted by Simpleware on

Simpleware will be running a series of free workshops in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne from March 23rd to April 1st 2015

These will include an overview of using the software to visualise, analyse, process and generate models from 3D image data (MRI, CT, micro-CT...). Learn how to obtain very high quality models from image data, how to integrate CAD objects with images, how to calculate effective material properties using Finite Element-based homogenisation techniques, and about exporting robust FE and CFD meshes for simulation in other software.

Submitted by Simpleware on

We invite you to submit abstracts to this Simpleware-sponsored minisymposium

Deadline: February 15, 2015

13th US National Congress on Computational Mechanics (USCNCCM13)

July 26-July 30, Manchester Grand Hyatt, San Diego, CA

Mini-symposium - Biomechanics Modeling: Advances and Applications to Real-World Problems

Organiser: Petr Krysl, University of California, San Diego

Case Study: Modelling Ultrasonic Array Response of Real Cracks

Submitted by Simpleware on

Stress corrosion cracks can be a serious problem in many engineering industries, and especially so for critical parts. While an ultrasonic transducer can be used for the non-destructive evaluation of cracks with simple shapes, complex branching cracks, such as stress corrosion cracks, require ultrasonic arrays that consist of multiple transducers and are able to inspect at multiple angles.

Case Study: Mechanics of Bacterial Biofilms on Surgical Sutures

Submitted by Simpleware on

Biofilms represent bacterial communities that attach to implanted medical devices such as sutures and catheters. When detached from implants within the body, biofilms can cause chronic infections. This study used Simpleware software to generate image-based microscopic Finite Element (FE) models from confocal laser scanning microscopy scans of real biofilm colonies attached to a surgical suture fragment.

The latest release of Simpleware’s 3D image processing and model generation software includes new features designed to enhance visualisation, analysis and segmentation of 3D image data. Features include a particles analyser, centreline tools and new physics modules for calculating effective material properties using homogenisation techniques.

Simpleware Version 7.0 now available

Submitted by Simpleware on

We're delighted to announce the Version 7.0 release of our 3D image processing, analysis and model generation software. The release comes with a wide range of new features including:

New Animations - generate animations from within the ScanIP interface - explore your data and create videos to communicate work to colleagues, with options for 'fly-throughs' available.

Simpleware Case Study: Total Hip Replacement Implant Positioning

Submitted by Simpleware on

Positioning hip implants poses a number of challenges, particularly in terms of getting bone and implant contact right. While experimental testing can be costly, image-based modelling can be very effective at predicting the best and worst positions for implants.

Simpleware Case Study: Evaluating Wheelchair Cushion Designs

Submitted by Simpleware on

In this study, researchers at Tel Aviv University and ROHO Inc. analysed how wheelchair cushion design affects the risk of pressure ulcers. MRI data of a male subject was used to generate a robust 3D model in Simpleware software for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of stresses in FEBio. Comparisons were made between different types of wheelchair cushions to determine how they respond to pressures. The study was successful at evaluating the effectiveness of FE modelling for studying interactions between wheelchair users and equipment.

Simpleware Case Study: Vertebral Endplate Morphology and Permeability

Submitted by Simpleware on

This study used Simpleware software and ANSYS Fluent to investigate the transport properties of the bony endplate (BEP). Understanding the BEP is important when considering fluid and nutrient exchanges between vertebra and intervertebral discs (IVDs. uCT and CFD were combined to evaluate the 3D microstructure and resistance to fluid flow of the BEP, resulting in a calculation of tissue permeability. The results demonstrated the value of image-based modelling and CFD for analysis of complex processes within the human body.
