Weakness

Submitted by mohammedlamine on

Hi all,

There are several formulae allowing the computation of tetrahedral volume elements. The weakness of some of them is that they give negative volumes. This is due to the vector dot product and its direction. You must take care when using them.

You have to check your formula with some simple examples like the vertices of the following one: (1,0,0) , (0,1,0) , (0,0,1) , (0,0,0).

The project deals with the development of a novel procedure for quantitative validation of finite element simulations with full-field optical strain measurements like digital image correlation. The work will be shared between numerical simulations and experimental work. This project has strong industrial relevence. Please note that the project can only be offered to EU/UK students.

Postdoctoral Position Available at University of Western Ontario,Canada

Submitted by Zhi Yan on

Position is available (starting from
January 2014) for a postdoctoral fellow to carry out an industry sponsored
project on carbon fiber composite modeling in Prof. Liying Jiang’s lab at the
Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department of the University of Western
Ontario in Canada. The contract is initiated for one year, with possible
extension if work progresses satisfactorily. The research will focus on (1)
micromechanics modeling of elastic and viscoplastic behavior of injection
molded carbon fiber composites; (2) homogenization techniques and constitutive model
development for vibration, strength and impact simulations of carbon fiber

Live Webinar - July 30 - Design Exploration and Optimization

Isight 5.8 - Live Webinar July 30, 9 AM EDT and 12 pm EDT. The latest release, Isight 5.8 provides simulation process automation and design optimization solutions that enable users to reduce analysis time and costs while improving product performance, quality, and reliability.  When used in conjunction with the SIMULIA Execution Engine (SEE), Isight customers can build a web-based framework for distributing the execution of simulation processes across the enterprise to optimize computing resources and to enable collaboration among geographically distributed users.

Postdoctoral Position Available at Northwestern University

A postdoctoral associate position is available immediately at the Computational Nanodynamics Group at Northwestern University. This research project focuses broadly on the atomistic and meso-scale modeling of biomolecular materials and their interfaces with engineered polymers. Nanostructural predictions, self-assembly studies, and simulations of mechanofunctional behavior constitute the scope of the project.

Abaqus time submission

Submitted by Lauralala on

Hi all!

I would like to submit a job at a defined time. I know we can do that on the CAE, but I prefere to use command lin, and my current model can't run on CAE. I checked on the help but I don't find how to submit an Abaqus job at a predefined time or to postpone a job of few minutes/hours, from command line.

Can you help me?

Thanks,

Laura

Pull out in fabric

Submitted by jagan on

Dear all,

I have been trying to model pull of single yarn in abaqus and model is responding. i got a problem now. I am applying velocity in one of the yarn and I am pulling it out.Boundary conditions are fixed on both the sides. to calculate the force that is being applied on to the fabric, pull out force, I summed up all the reaction quantites RF1,RF2,RF3 and i plotted it against displacement. but the force is touching zero sometimes. i dont know the reason. what could it be?

P.S. : I have attached my pull out graph also.
