Convergent Manufacturing Technologies Inc. (www.convergent.ca), a small but growing university spin-off company located on the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus, is a world-leader in virtual manufacturing for the aerosapce industry. We develop specialized engineering simulation software and provide engineering support to the leading aerospace companies world-wide.
Discussions are welcome on: "THE PERCEIVED CONFLICT BETWEEN SAFETY AND PRODUCTION"
I am hoping someone has some historical knowledge of some
interesting mechanics, or just an interest to discuss it. A superposition principle is widely used to solve crack problems, with illustrations like these:

Arctic drilling has
been happening since the 1920s, but it become much more contentious as BP’s
Deepwater Horizon spill in the GOM dominates the headlines while firms were
scrambling to expand production in the far North.

At least 2 PhD positions are available at Nanomechanics and Multi-physics Lab at UC, Riverside. Selected students will develop an in-situ TEM experimental setup using nanofabrication techniques and carry out experiments to understand the material behavior of nanoscale thin films. Students with background in material science are highly encouraged to apply.

Prof. Zdenek P. Bazant seeks a postdoctoral
associate to conduct research on some of his sponsored projects. They
deal with the mechanics and nano-mechanics of quasibrittle failure of
fiber composites, concrete
and geomaterials, including probabilistic strength and lifetime. Others
deal with creep and chemo-mechanical effects in concrete structures and
their nano-mechanical origin. To apply, send a CV to Robert Lenon
