Full scholarships available at European Commission funded workshop on physically based material modeling

Submitted by Tuncay Yalcinkaya on

European Commission' s JRC (Joint Research Centre) is organizing a workshop on physics based modeling of material properties and experimental observations in collaboration with METU (Middle East Technical University). The workshop will be held in Ankara on 22-23 October 2012.

The Workshop will include lectures by keynote speakers: W. Curtin, F. Dunne, L. Malerba, J-F Molinari, A. Needleman and B. Svendsen, and presentations by participants (oral or posters).

Shape Memory Polymer FEM Ansys

Submitted by Michel on

Hello everyone,

I hope to find an answer to my problem in this forum.

I'm working on the finite element model of a SMP in order to predict the recovery shape after heating. I'm in trouble about the material properties of this kind of polymer. I run tensile stress test, DMA and TMA in order to characterise the material. However I didn't succeed to write the good command in Ansys to get a shape memory effect.

Does anyone of you has knowledges about SMP ?

Thank you very much,

Michel

Experimental Micromechanics for Geomaterials

Submitted by Jean-Michel Pereira on

A joint workshop of the ISSMGE TC101-TC105: Experimental
Micromechanics for Geomaterials
will be held on 23rd-24th May
2013 at The University of Hong Kong.

Abstracts are now invited, until the 1st October 2012. They should
be 200-300 words in length, written in English, and show relevance
to the theme of the workshop. Abstracts should be sent to Ms Bridget
Lam. Email: owlam [at] hku.hk (owlam[at]hku[dot]hk) (subject: EXP MICRO 2013)

Question on Local Max-Entropy shape functions and their derivatives at corner particle

Submitted by sivaprasad.avs on

I am using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) with dual particle
approach (please look at the figures in the .ppt file I have attached) to simulate High
Velocity impact phenomena.

The shape function values being 1 at the corner particle and zero at the other particles makes the Jacobian to evaluate the gradients of shape function inconvenient (the jacobian becomes a zero matrix).

The slides explain my problem more clearly.

Kindly go through them and help me.

i need your help. i want to solve the problem of fracture mechanics using ANSYS.

now, i'm trying to solve the problem that is part-through crack in cylinder for stress intensity factor through J-integral. Of course in 3-D.

but, model the cracktip and describe the crack surface is very difficult and complicate.

and i also want to know function of BSPLIN.

Postdoc or Research Associate opening on bi-metallic friction stir welding joining at Texas A&M university at Qatar

Submitted by gayoub on

The work involves working
independently and collaboratively on: Identifying processing parameters that
will optimize the properties of the bi-metallic joint, developing a material
constitutive model for impact loading conditions, developing an experimentally
validated numerical model the can be used to predict the joint performance
under impact loading conditions, and developing design and processing
guidelines for the bimetallic joints.
