Crack growing and fracture criterion

Submitted by P. F. C. on

Dear iMechanicians,

First I'd like to thank the ones sharing their lecture notes, it's
very helpful for someone who is learning fracture mechanics by himself like I
do.

Nevertheless, I would have some questions regarding the
energetic aspect of the crack propagation. Please do not hesitate to correct me
if I am wrong. Questions are related to this lecture note, from Professor Suo: node/7507

PhD scholarship in Diesel Engine Tribology

Submitted by info@signatur.dk on

A PhD scholarship is available at DTU Mechanical Engineering, Section for Solid Mechanics, in the field of diesel engine tribology. The scholarship focuses on computational modelling and experimental verification of fluid film and bearing parts of journal bearings in large two-stroke diesel engines. The department has well-established research activities in these fields and the present scholarship is partly funded by the EU-project Hercules-C. The research activities will be performed in close cooperation with MAN Diesel & Turbo SE located in Copenhagen.

Global Energy Release Rate in Piezoelectric Ceramics

Submitted by kamlesh jangid on

Hello to all,

I wants to know about "Global energy release rate".

How to calculate''Global energy release rate'' in crack problems of piezoelectric ceramics?

Is there any fundamental book about ''Global energy release rate'' in crack problems of piezoelectric ceramics?

     With regards,

Covariantization of Nonlinear Elasticity

Submitted by arash_yavari on

In this paper we make a connection between covariant elasticity based on covariance of energy balance and Lagrangian field theory of elasticity with two background metrics. We use Kuchar's idea of reparametrization of field theories and make elasticity generally covariant by introducing a "covariance field", which is a time-independent spatial diffeomorphism. We define a modified action for parameterized elasticity and show that the Doyle-Ericksen formula and spatial homogeneity of the Lagrangian density are among its Euler-Lagrange (EL) equations.

Questions about crack growth code using extended finite method uel (Abaqus uel xfem code)

Submitted by Honggang Jia on
Respected all students and teachers,
I am rencently study the xfem code (downloaded from  http://www.pudn.com/downloads247/sourcecode/math/detail1147440.html,
you can input account number:Z770428 and password :770428 ,then download UEL_XFEM code for crack growth .)   but  I encounterd some questions , in the following is some code in UEL_XFEM code  of page 41 ,
