FEA of Crack Propagation

Submitted by urkabil on

Hi all,I'm a student of of Madras Institute of Technology, Chennai.I'm trying to do stress intensity based crack propagation in metals. I’m using Abaqus/CAE. I’m following the abaqus 6.5 documentation, I have completed upto “Contour integral evaluation,” (Section 7.10.2). but I’m unable to proceed further, since “Crack propagation analysis”, (Section 7.10.3) refers only “Input file usage” (Not Abaqus/CAE Usage)I hope someone can help me

Partial Differential Equations for Scientists and Engineers

Submitted by youngyoon on

Hello,

I am an instructor who teaches the partial differential equatioin for mechanical engineering students at Myong Ji University in South Korea using the book, "partial differential equations for scientists and engineers" written by Prof. Stanley J. Farlow.

Luckly our department professor handed me over a copy of solution manual but which was not completed. Thus I wonder if anyone has a complete solution manual for this book. It will be grateful if I may be able to obtain a complete solution manual.

Thank you very much,

Young June Yoon

Professor YC Fung, the widely-recognized father of modern biomechanics, recently challenged the field by asking this fundamental question: “What axioms of the classical continuum mechanics have to be changed for biology?”

Automatic failed element removal

Submitted by manoochehr on

Hi every one,

I think that there is a method for automatic failed element removal  using UMAT subroutine, I mean that at every iteriation failed elements with the help of a failure criterion to be indicated and to its material behaviour to set to zero and this means that a path for crack propagation will form .... Anyway, if any body is intrested we can clarify this subroutine step by step for all of the visitors in this website, I mean that an open source subroutine to be expanded here.

Thank you,

Multiple positions in experiments and CFD

Submitted by chchang on

Multiple, assistant researcher/research scientist/postdoctoral positions are available in a large, 4-year duration, Department of Defense program on “Release, Atmospheric Dispersal, and Environmental Fate of Liquid Agents”.  The effort is aiming to: (a) achieve a basic understanding of the physics of aero-breakup and dispersal of liquid agents in high-speed flows, (b) achieve a basic understanding of impact/spreading/absorption/reaction/evaporation of drops falling on various substrates, and (c) develop and validate computational tools covering the hierarchy of scales involved and purp

Effect of interface

Submitted by Gouse on

Hi,

I am simulating failure of concrete in tension and compression on a concrete representative element volume. I have modeled mortar matrix and aggregate (inclusion) separately i.e my model consists of two material and assumed them as perfectly bonded. My question is, if I add interface zone between matrix and inclusion how will it effect my overall failre or can I neglect inerface.

Effect of aggregate (coarse aggregate) size on conpressive strength of concrete

Submitted by Gouse on

Hi,

I want to know what is the effect of coarse aggregate size or size of the aggregate on compressive strength of concrete. And similarly what is effect of aggregate size on tensile strength of concrete.

I have few papers which contradicts each other so I am confused.

Problem with using Abaqus in Earthquake analysis

Submitted by maherelabd on

Dear All,

I have a problem simulating earthquake effect on a very simple structure. The structure is a 2 story steel plan frame structure. with lumped mass at its corners.

I am applying the Northbridge earthquake on it but I am getting very strange results.

I am applying the Material density beside the lumped mass at corners.

Both, eignvalues and frequencies and also responses are not correct.

Problem of extracting structural damping

Submitted by chlif_med on

Hello;

I have a problem of extracting structural damping coefficient of a sandwich plate type steel / polymer / steel. I have already entered the shear modulus of the polymer in ABAQUS G = G0 (iw) / (1 + iw) With the: *viscoelastic, frequency=TABULAR

I do not know if my approach is right?

My inp file has this form:

*NODE, NSET=ALLNODES, SYSTEM=R

..

*ELEMENT, TYPE=S4      , ELSET=THIN-SHELL1

..

*SHELL GENERAL SECTION,

 ELSET=THIN-SHELL1 ,
