The Computational Mechanics and Physics Laboratory at Vanderbilt University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher interested in the area of ice sheet modeling and fracture mechanics of Antarctic ice shelves and glaciers.
In this paper we present a methodology for reverse engineering of trabecular bone like architectures using multi-objective topology optimization. We then investigate the mechanical properties of the resulting network structures. Specifically, we show that structures optimized according to Wolff's law alone may be stiffest but they are also fragile.

I am looking for a highly motivated, hard working, and bright student to fill a fully funded MS/ PhD position in my research group (www.ndsu-dams.com). The Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Systems Engineering invites applications at the Assistant Professor level from outstanding individuals with demonstrated expertise or research potential in Advanced Solid Mechanics applied to Extreme Environments. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, loading of materials as a result of in-air or underwater blast or explosion, implosion of structures, impact mechanics, dynamic response of materials under extreme temperatures or pressures, saline or maritime conditions, and dynamic fracture fragmentation. Applicants are expected to have either a strong experimental background, or be expert in the computational modeling of solids under extreme loading conditions.
