In recent years there has been a growing interest into high performance bioinspired adhesives. This communication focuses on the adhesive behavior of a rigid cylinder that indents an elastic layer coated on a rigid substrate. With the assumption of short range adhesive interactions (JKR type) the adhesive solution is obtained very easily starting from the adhesiveless one.

An immediate fully-funded Ph.D. position is open in Advanced Hierarchical Materials by Design Lab at Louisiana Tech University on multiscale modeling of materials under extreme conditions. The project involves collaboration with the computational research groups at national labs, as well as experimental researchers from MIT and Georgia Tech to test and validate the models and codes.
It is my first blog entry to iMechanica after long period of only reading.
In this review published in Chemical Soceity Reviews, we systematically revealed the design principles for bioelectronics and discussed hydrogels' merits and potential in bioelectronics.
Abstract
The UQ Lab of Prof. Guilleminot at Duke University is seeking for one PhD candidate willing to conduct interdisciplinary research at the interface of computational mechanics, materials science and uncertainty quantification (start date in Fall 2019). Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) stochastic modeling and computational frameworks for large-scale nonlinear materials and systems, statistical inverse problems and multiscale approaches. This research program interfaces with a broader initiative in Computational Mechanics and Scientific Computing at Duke University.
Ph.D positions now open (for Fall 2019) in Mechanics, Biomimetics, and 3D Printing Lab at the University of New Hampshire/Mechanical Engineering Department.
More information about the lab can be found at http://www.unh.edu/yaning-lab/
The projects are supported by NSF and AFOSR.
