ACM2015 : International Conference on Advances in Applied and Computational Mechanics ,5-7 August 2015, Izmir/Turkey
We are proud to announce International Conference on Advances in Applied and Computational Mechanics, which is organized in the honor of 70th birthday of Prof.J.N.Reddy. This is a tribute for his many and lasting contribution to education and research in applied mechanics.
Conference will be held at WYNDHAM GRAND Hotel, Inciralti Izmir/Turkey during August 5-7, 2015.
Postdoc/PhD Position available in Spring 2016
We are currently accepting candidates for 2 Ph.D. and 1 Postdoc positions in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the State University of New York, Stony Brook, working on the smart materials with application to energy harvesting, sensing and control.
Individuals with very good knowledge in the following area(s) are invited to respond.
o Vibration-based Energy Harvesting and Optimal Power Conditioning Circuit
A cable bending stick-slip analytical model
Single strand cable bending, stick-slip, analytical models require that a choice be made between two contact modes between adjacent wires: either radial (between layers) or lateral (between same layer wires). In most recent models (e.g. Papailiou’s) radial contact is selected. A “lateral contact” model has been presented by Panetti in 1944 and can be found in the proceedings of the Turin Royal Academy of Science. A translated version from Italian is proposed in the attached file.

Experimental Study of NiTi Thin-Walled Tubes Under Uniaxial Tension, Torsion, Proportional and Non-Proportional Loadings
The superelastic response of NiTi shape memory alloys under various loading conditions is experimentally investigated using thin-walled tube specimens. The isotropic relation between the elastic and shear moduli of austenite and martensite as well as the von Mises stress and strain equivalency are also studied in uniaxial tension and pure torsion. In addition to proportional loading, several non-proportional loading experiments based on both force and displacement control modes are conducted.
