A sustainable hamlet is a group of houses whose specifications meet today's environmental challenges in terms of water, energy and waste management. These houses are in harmony with the surrounding landscape (or environment). They can be partially self-built and include a common space. This space is open, creating a new social space.
Two fully funded PhD positions are available as early as Fall, 2023 in Dr. Ning Zhang’s research group at the Baylor University. The research work will focus on the mechanical, chemical, and thermal properties of structural and multifunctional materials.
The research topics include:
(1) Polymer composites;
(2) Medium/High entropy alloys;
(3) High entropy ceramics;
(4) Biomaterials;
(5) Machine learning.
Applications are invited from motivated and qualified candidates for two postdoctoral positions in the mechanics of slender bodies. The positions are ideally suited for applicants with a background in solid mechanics, and a strong interest in theoretical and analytical work.

In this work, we presented biohybrid electronic robots (eBiobot) powered by optogenetic skeletal muscles and controlled by wireless optoelectronics, allowing remote control of switching, steering, and other more sophisticated functions. The eBiobot inherits the structural concept motivated by a physiological muscle-tendon-bone architecture from previously demonstrated walking robots, where 3D engineered skeletal muscle tissue forms around an asymmetric hydrogel scaffold.
