Postdoc position in cutting edge optimization for metal machining, Aarhus University, Denmark

Submitted by Ramin Aghababaei on

Applications are invited for a 2.5-year postdoctoral position at Aarhus University, Denmark. The focus of the project will be on shape optimization of cutting edge for improving milling process of stainless steel. This research opportunity broadly involves the development of physics-based computational approaches and systematic simulations for understanding the micromechanics of material removal from metallic surfaces.  This project is part of a big Grand Solution industrial project, which is funded by the Innovation Fund Denmark.

Cohesive element modelling problem in ABAQUS

Submitted by hermatician on

Dear All,

I am modelling a 3 point bend specimen with Cohesive elements tied to the upper and lower halves of the specimen in 2d.

The problem is that the CZ elements perform properly only for a combination of element sizes, i.e. a combination of element size of structure and CZ elements, for instance in my case the structure/specimen element size is 0.2mm and CZ is 0.001 or 0.002. For any other combination the adjacent elements bend as shown in the attached image.

I will be glad if someone could explain this behaviour and the solution.

Steady-state fracture toughness of elastic-plastic solids: Isotropic versus kinematic hardening

Submitted by Emilio Martíne… on

I hope some of you may find this work interesting. We show that kinematic hardening effects play a significant role in monotonic/static fracture.

Fully Funded Ph.D. Position

Submitted by K.Kanistras on

January 18th 2018

A fully-funded Ph.D. position is available in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville with a starting date of August 2019. The focus of the project is on flow separation control. Our research integrates wind tunnel testing and advanced experimental fluid dynamic techniques such as particle image velocimetry (PIV) to investigate the flow structures and apply more effectively flow control techniques for aerospace and wind energy applications.
