Multistable Architected Materials for Trapping Elastic Strain Energy

Submitted by Sung Hoon Kang on

3D printing and numerical analysis are combined to design a new class of architected materials that contain bistable beam elements and exhibit controlled trapping of elastic energy. The proposed energy-absorbing structures are reusable. Moreover, the mechanism of energy absorption stems solely from the structural geometry of the printed beam elements, and is therefore both materials- and loading-rate independent.

PhD and post-doctoral positions on multiscale materials modeling at IMDEA Materials Institute

Submitted by Javier LLorca on

Two PhD and two post-doctoral positions are available at IMDEA Materials Institute within the framework of a project funded by the European Reseach Council to develop multiscale modeling strategies –together with the corresponding experimental validation– to simulate the microstructural development during solidification and thermal treatments as well as the mechanical behavior at different length scales of Al and Mg alloys.

More details and information to apply can be found in the enclosed files.

Subroutine DFLUX in ABAQUS

Submitted by Frank Richter on

Dear Mechanicians,

time and again the question of modeling moving heat sources pops up, often in the context of laser heating.

One can achieve this using the subroutine DFLUX in ABAQUS.

I decided to post some links here to avoid responding with a longer explanation to every individual seeking assistance.

Please note that I have never worked with any one of these codes and have no access to ABAQUS at present.

No warranty is given by me.

About Dstran or Stran of cohesive element in ABAQUS

Submitted by YuYong on

Sir,
I want to ask you a question,
I debug a constitutive model about the cohesive element in ABAQUS.
You know the key point of this element's constitutive model is Traction-Seperation Relationship.
I want to test my model by Umat, not the Uel.
So I want to ask whether Stran is the relative displacement(not strain) of the Gauss point in this type element.
And how Dstran is calculated by UEL subroutine!!!
