Strengthening alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogels using various multivalent cations

Submitted by _canhuiyang on
We successfully synthesized a family of alginate/polyacrylamide hydrogels using various multivalent cations. These hydrogels exhibit exceptional mechanical properties. In particular, we found that the hydrogels cross-linked by trivalent cations are much stronger than those cross-linked by divalent cations. We demonstrate stretchability and toughness of the hydrogels by inflating a hydrogel sheet

MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering Faculty Position in Mechanics of Solids and Structures

Submitted by lanand on

The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks an outstanding individual for a tenure-track faculty position in Mechanics of Solids and Structures.  The appointment is expected to be at the assistant professor level; in an exceptional case, a senior faculty appointment may be possible. Faculty duties include teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, development of an independent, internationally-recognized research program, and supervision of student research.

Running MD simulations with LAMMPS

Submitted by Nuwan Dewapriya on

In appendix A of my PhD thesis, I share a MATLAB code to get coordinates of carbon atoms in a graphene sheet. The code also generates the data file required for LAMMPS. In addition, I included a sample input and the corresponding output files from LAMMPS. I hope this will be useful for those who would like to learn MD simulations.

Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) package can also be used to obtain coordinates of graphene.

ABAQUS: Trouble getting VUFIELD subroutine to work

Submitted by sscaleb on

Hi all,

This is my first post on iMechanica. I'm a student at UC Davis working on my master's project which is a FEM analysis of a bridge footing. I've scoured the web, read and reread the Abaqus Documentation, and tried trial and error for a couple weeks on a problem, to no avail. Here's the issue:

Determination of Density of Laminated Composite

Submitted by Amin Khajeh on

Dear Engineers,

I would like to determine the density of laminated composite which consists of one lamina E-Glass/Epoxy and another one is thin layer of steel plate due to determining Young's Modulus through non-diestructive technique-Impulse excitation.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Abaqus Subroutine and python subscripting

Submitted by rajnish0007 on

Dear All,

I was wondering if anyone used abaqus user subroutines to couple the micro and macro models? If any one has used it and is also willing to share the knowledge?

I am looking for some guidance on how to run another *inp and get it's out put in the subroutine. any example on this is greatly appreciated.

Tenure-track Faculty Position at NC State

Submitted by Murthy N. Guddati on

The Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) at North Carolina State University (NCSU) expects a tenure track faculty position to be filled in the area of Structural Engineering and Mechanics. Exceptional candidates in all areas within structural engineering and mechanics are encouraged to apply; applicants with expertise in modeling of structural systems or materials are of particular interest.
