Dear colleagues,

First time in iMechanica. As a presentation, I am a researcher interested in Fluids and Solids Mechanics. My approach to research involves an interplay between experimental, theoretical and numerical modeling techniques. My principal research areas might be categorized as: Fluid-Structure-Thermal Interaction, Aeroelasticity, Material Resistance, Rotating flows, Mechanical Instabilities.

room acoustic

Submitted by avicina on

Hi

If I have a 3d rectangular room,  and I want to model 1/2 of that room because of symmetry boundary condition. in acousticFEM problem, what is my symmetry boundary condition in symmetry plane?

I mean at seymmetry plane which kind of constraint I should apply on pressure of the sound wave?

thanks alot

Any tips/comments regarding the latest version of the C++ library: Eigen (v. 3.0)?

Submitted by Ajit R. Jadhav on

Hi all,

1. A new version of Eigen (v 3.0 now) is out (on March 23, 2011), and it seems promising. First, a few links:

The main page for the project is here: [^]. The page for v.3.0 is here: [^]. It seems to be very fast: [^].

Convergence Problem using Biphasic Material to model hip joint in Abaqus

Submitted by Leviathan2010 on

Dear All,

i am new to this forum and would like say hello to everybody!

I am currently working on a hip joint model consistent mainly
of the cartilogenous tissues. Biphasic Materials consitent of
a linear elastic Matrix and trapped fluid, which i modelled in
abaqus using Soil Mechanics (permeability).

At the moment, however, i am unable to obtain convergence. The
whole calculation stops at ca 0.122 sec out of total 1 sec. I
guess its just one parameter set wrong in Contact or an convergence

Can we input PET material properties directly in Abaqus 6.9

Submitted by manivannan on

I am a master student doing research on cohesive zone modeling of polymer coated steel.. I use abaqus 6.9 for my simulation.. I have three questions on cohesive zone modelling..

1. Can we input PET material properties directly in Abaqus 6.9

2. Can we input PVC material properties directly in Abaqus 6.9

3. I am using Standard abaqus cohesive Zone models embedded in abaqus standard pack. Is that right approach ?

Please clarify.. This would be life saving help..

Sincerely,

Manivannan..!!

Merging/Boolen operation in ABAQUS Cae to produce inclusion/matrix Unit cell

Submitted by Leon Mishnaevsky on

Hi,

I am trying to do with ABAQUS Cae now what I usually and successfully did with MSC Patran - produce a unit cell for particle reinforced composite. In other words,  I need to generate a "ball in a box" model.

So, I produce a part Cube and a  part Ball. After that I create Sections and Instances (what seems to be unnecessary if comparing with Patran, but apparently needed to link CAE with CADs), and assign Materias (lets say, Glass to Ball, and Polymer to Cube).

How can I model the progressive damage of composite materials

Submitted by Jameswei on

Recently, I indulged myself into the progressive damage simulation of composite materials. I firstly used the USDFLS to create several fields to define certain kinds of damage, such as fiber crack, matrix crack, shear damage and delamination. One curious thing that I experienced into this is that ABAQUS/Standard informed me that "Stiffness defined by engineering constants is not physically reasonable. Check choice of poisson's ratios". I checked the data and changed some to comply with the rules of the transversely isotropic materials and the program proceeded.
