Stiffness Matrix Calculation of the Pipe Element of ALGOR PipePak

Submitted by L2020 on

Hi friends

I've a question about ALGOR PipePak...how does ALGOR(PipePak) calculate the stiffness matrix of a pipe element...I guess it's available on its user's guide,,,but unfortunately I don't access that...can anybody guide me on this issue ?

Drucker Prager plasticity model for ceramics

Submitted by I. Mijangos on

Hi everybody,

I am a phD student modelling the behaviour of the ceramics under nanoindentation using ABAQUS. I have read that Drucker Prager plasticity model is suitable for ceramics under indentation. To obtain these parameters ABAQUS users manual suggest doing a triaxial test, but I can not find any information relating triaxial test with ceramics (I only find it for soils and rock). Does anybody know another way  to obtain these parameters? Has anybody performed this test experimentally before?

 Thanks,

Geometric Design, Computer Graphics, and FEM

Submitted by N. Sukumar on

I recently participated in a minisymposium (SIAM Conference ), where geometric modeling, graphics, and finite elements were the focus. Over the past 4 to 5 years, there has been a lot of interest in the construction of barycentric coordinates on polygons/polyhedra, and the minisymposium brought together many of us with common interests.

Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics

The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics invites applications for TWO tenure-track faculty positions to support a Department initiative in Sustainable Engineering. Qualified individuals are sought with expertise in either:

(1) Computational mechanics - with an emphasis on large-scale computing applied to multi-scale, multi-phase modeling of materials (from nano- to macro-scale), and/or mechanics and materials challenges in energy and/or the environment.

How to create a precrack

Submitted by Joe cherian on

Dear Fellows,

I am trying to develop a new testing method for analysing the interfacial fracture toughness. The problem I face is to create a precrack.

if I use a stainless steel substrate and TiN or chromium coating on it, which is the best method to create a precrack?

 Please give your sugestions.

cellular/ porous material simulation software

Submitted by mvex on

hi - i'm new to the site and not familiar with material science in particular, however i'm currently looking for some simulation-software for cellular solids/ porous materials/ foam which allows me to evaluate the differentiation of geometry without too much scripting/programming - could anyone please point me in the direction of software available at a reasonable price (as an academic/student licence)/shareware/freeware which has output formats such as STL (Stereolithography), OBJ, DXF, IGES ..

Many Thanks!
