Faculty Positions in Mechanical Engineering at University of Connecticut

Submitted by Ying Li on

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Connecticut is growing the faculty to develop existing strengths of the department and expand in exciting new directions. This year, the department invites applications for multiple tenure-track or tenured faculty positions focused on developing innovative material systems, mathematical and computer modeling, as well as analysis and fabrication approaches in support of advanced and digital manufacturing, and with a strong emphasis on scientific rigor.

The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for multiple faculty positions at all ranks. Candidates are sought in all technical sub-disciplines of mechanical science and engineering, including design, thermosciences, solid and fluid mechanics, and dynamics and control, with particular interest in the broad application areas of manufacturing, energy and sustainability, and robotics and cyber-physical systems.

Stress distribution is not accurate of ballastless track in ABAQUS

Submitted by BEKHZAD on

Dear riends.

I have been trying to do is that developing a model of railway track using Abaqus software in order to check the dynamic responses of subgrade layer. For that, I have created all layers of the complete track using different specific materials and TIE constrains for each layer. In addition, I have created in the interaction between wheel and rail with firctional interaction. I have tried two steps, step 1 is static general and step 2 dynamic implicit and I am using time amplitude.

Time integration scheme for XFEM? (dynamic crack propagation)

Submitted by abbhuiya on

Hello everyone,

Can somebody suggest an implicit/explicit time integration scheme when the matrices involved(M,C,K) are time dependent? (They change at every time step because of the crack tip enrichment functions which are time dependent).

I used the implicit Newmark scheme (trapezoidal/constant average acceleartion method) but just discovered that all my matrices (M,C,K) are time dependent where the original scheme is probably for constant M,C and K matrices. I used the scheme as in reference [1].

(Reminder: Due 31st October) Call for Nominations for the Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty

Submitted by Pradeep Sharma on

It is my pleasure to solicit nominations for the "Eshelby Mechanics Award for Young Faculty". This award, launched in 2012, is given annually to rapidly emerging junior faculty who exemplify the creative use and development of mechanics. The intent of the award is to promote the field of mechanics, especially among young researchers. While interdisciplinary work that bridges mechanics with physics, chemistry, biology and other disciplines is encouraged, the ideal awardee will demonstrate clear inspiration from mechanics in his/her research.
