I want to do modal analysis of a structure with viscoelastic material. The viscoelastic
material has a complex youngs modulus E= E (1+i*g), where g is the loss factor. In ANSYS, modal analysis ignores all
nonlinearity, so how can I perform modal analysis with viscoelastic material?
Please find attached a report on a comparison between ANSYS SHELL181 and SOLSH190 elements with particular emphasis on applicability to linear elastic sandwich panels.
Title: Comparison of Ansys elements Shell181 and Solsh190
I am dealing with a partial sphere dome in ANSYS, I created the volume by extruding half of an arch area along the axis at the dome center. I am using SOLID65 elements. The problem I am facing now is how to properly sweep mesh the whole volume ( actually, there are four 90 degree partial sphere together after the extrude of the area), because if I simply sweep the volume, the elements around the top center of the sphere will cause element shape warning in the static analysis.
Dose anyone have any idea about how to deal with the mesh around the center?
I would like to know if there is any chance to simulate orthotropic nonlinear viscoelasticity/creep of CFRP in ANSYS (e.g. by means of user programmable features (UMAT subroutines) or using the software DIGIMAT or others)? For the nonlinear part I would like to use Schapery's method.
I'm an MSc. student at Bogazici University, Turkiye and I'm working on a thesis project about the failure behaviour of fiber reinforced laminated composite plates under different loading types. The material which we use are AS4 fiber reinforced prepregs and their mechanical properties are the following:

I have modeled the reduced section of a tensile test specimen in 3D (a simple cylinder; falt surface in x-y plane, length in z direction). I applied a load on one flat surface of the cylinder, and put the opposite flat surface as a symmetry plane.
When I plot the result after the simulation of a tensile test, the cylinder moved in the direction perpendicular to the application of the load. I was expecting it only to increase in length in the z direction.
Is there any other boundary conditions I should have considered?
I want to model a simple bending RC beam using "smear" approach in ANSYS. Can anybody tell me which approach is right or both are the same?
1. I create two real constant sets for SOLID65 element. First one doesnt have volume ratio for the reinforcement, the second one does. Then, I create two seperate volumes adjacent to eachother and one under the other. I glue them and before meshing I choose the first real constant set for the upper one and the second set for the other as mesh attributes.
I created a 3D model in Ansys, and when I wanted to mesh, I realised that the model was created in the wrong plane: the area I wanted to mesh was in the x-z plane, while the plane82 element I needed to use needs to be in the x-y plane.
Is there a way I can rotate my entire model instead of starting from the beginning?
In addition, how can I create a cylinder with the circle in the x-z plane and its depth in the y direction. Creating circles and cylinder only gives the option to create the circle in the x-y plane.
I've modeled a composite sandwitch with ANSYS with a pressure. The element chosen was SHELL181.
I want to know the Stresses in the x, y and xy directions; the displacements and the deformations only in a few points so as to compare with the Navier and Rayleigh-Ritz solutions made following Reddy's book.
1.-The first problem is that I don't know how to ask ANSYS to list the displacements and deformations.
2.-The second one is that I know how to ask ANSYS to list all the elements in a layer,
I want to model torsion of a homogeneous hollow cylinder in ANSYS. I changed to cylindric coordinate system also. But each time I run the program the result is that of bending. I have attached the mac file and output file for reference. Please advise.
How to model spring damper in ansys. what are the material properties and other parameters that have to be given for the spring damper element in ansys. thank you.
