RSS- -Cost-Efficient Open Source Desktop Size Radial Stretching System With Force Sensor

Submitted by Stefan E. Scha… on

The rapid and efficient development of soft active materials requires readily available, compact testing equipment. We propose a desktop-sized, cost-efficient, and open source radial stretching system as an alternative to commercially available biaxial and uniaxial stretching devices. It allows for doubling the diameter of an elastomer membrane while measuring the applied force. Our development enables significant cost reduction (<300 €) and increase the availability of equibiaxial deformation measurements for scientific material analysis.

How to model fastener with same force-displacement behavior for all translational directions in a plane in Abaqus?

Hi everyone. I want to model the fasteners connecting a wood sheathing to a steel frame in Abaqus. I want to input the same force-displacement behavior for all translational directions in the plane of the sheathing (like a radial spring).

I was using spring element type Spring2 (nonlinear) but I could define behavior in only 2 translational directions in the sheathing plane (X and Z). This made my model overly stiff after the elastic range. I read about the RADIAL-THRUST connector element but it does not seem to be the one.

Model steel phase change and residual strain and stress using abaqus

Hi, I'm a Mechanical Engineering student and I need to learn how to create a simulation of the martensitic transformation as a result of quenching of steel using Abaqus.

I'm just trying to get as much information as I can on my own but I want to ask for some advise; at this time what I have found is that I may need to use some Abaqus user subroutines as UMAT or VUMAT ir order to succed on the simulation but I want to know if theres any other way to avoid using them.

Frictional Coulomb model in Abaqus

Submitted by Nicholas Fantuzzi on

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to add friction in my model. Now I have a body that is simply supported in a direction (vertical) and free to move in another one (horizontal). I want to use Coulomb friction in the horizontal direction in order to reduce displacements in that direction.

I read Abaqus User's Manual vol5 30.1.5 (frictional behavior) and I followed commands written there, but I think that works only with multiple bodies and not with a single body. I'm using Abaqus 6.7-1.

Could Someone help me?

Many many many thanks

Nicholas
