IMDEA Materials is looking for a Research Associate to work in the research project VIRMETAL (virtual design, virtual processing and virtual testing of metallic materials) funded by an Advanced Grant of the European Research Council.

Research activities will be focused in the development of multiscale modeling strategies to simulate the microstructural development during solidification of metallic alloys.

There are multiple Postdoc positions available at Impact Dynamics of Composites Research Group, School of Aeronautics, Northwestern Polytechnical University, which is located in Xi'an, China.

Candidates with research experience on mechanics of composites, impact dynamics and computational mechanics are encouraged to apply.

Salary is around 150-220K RMB depending on the qualification of the candidate. The PI offers additional bonus.

Excellent candidates can be considered for faculty positions (assistant professor or un-tenured associate professor).

Lithium ion batteries are prone to degradation by a range of mechanisms including dendritic formation and swell-induced fatigue and micro-cracking. The topology of the battery plays a role over a number of length scales, from macro scale geometry of battery to the microstructural scale of the mixing of the negative electrode in the electrolyte. Topology has a major effect both on performance and on the failure mechanisms.

A funded PhD position is available at the department of mechanical engineering in Binghamton University starting from Jan. 1st or Sep. 1st, 2018.  Current topics of interest include: 1) mechanics of additive manufactured materials for biomedical usage; 2) optimal design/fabrication of 3D printed composite structures. The lab is equipped with the state-of-the-art 3D printers like EOS M290, Objet PolyJet, Stratasys FDM, MarkForged, etc. and new machines are upon ordering.

One Ph.D. research position is available immediately in the Advanced Materials Research Lab at the University of Miami to perform interdisciplinary research in the area of bio-inspired cementitious materials. POST-DOC POSITION FOR NECKING AND DUCTILE FRACTURE CRITERION DEVELOPMENT

DESCRIPTION

Accurate modelling of sheet metal necking and ductile fracture is a key factor for the reliable numerical analysis of the stamping process feasibility of lightweight metals, such as ultra high strength steels and aluminium alloys.

Aalto University (Finland), Department of Mechanical Engineering, is looking for a doctoral student for a study on the breakage and fragmentation of ice blocks under compressive loads. The fragmentation process is complicated and requires the use of novel modelling methods that can be used reliably on different scales. In addition to the computational work, we will perform experiments on this topic. We start the work using our inhouse FEM-DEM code (other approaches can be also used), while the experiments will be performed in the cold room of our department.
