PhD positions on modeling of flexoelectricity in Barcelona

Submitted by irene.arias on

We are looking for highly motivated and creative PhD researchers to study electromechanical transduction at the nanoscale. It is well known that by deforming some materials (piezoelectrics) electricity can be produced. What is a relatively new discovery is that by bending any dielectric at the nanoscale, significant electrical signals can also be generated. This is the so-called flexoelectric effect.

Research fellow position in Theoretical and Computational Solid Mechanics at IIT Hyderabad

Submitted by Prashant Saxena on

Positions are available to work in cutting edge areas of theoretical and computational solid mechanics. Interested students can later convert this to a formal M.Tech or PhD program.

The candidate will officially be associated with the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, India.

Ph.D. Candidate Position on “Characterization of the local mechanical behavior of elastomer materials by instrumented nanoindentation”

Submitted by Guenhael on

One Ph.D. candidate position is available in the Fall 2017 in the Elastomer Research Center (Cermel) at the Laboratory of Mechanics and Rheology (LMR) in the Polytechnic School of the University of Tours in France.

Job description

The aim of this Ph.D. is to extend the comprehension of the local mechanisms involved in elastomer materials, in order to faithfully reproduce their behavior in finite element models. The Ph.D. applicant is expected to carry out both theoretical and experimental work.

Multi-scale finite element modelling of magnesium medical devices

Submitted by pmcgarry on

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for two full-time Postdoctoral Researcher positions on the finite element simulation of magnesium orthopaedic implants. These three year fixed term positions are funded through a US-Ireland R&D Partnership Programme involving collaboration between the SFI Centre for Research in Medical Devices (Cúram), the NSF Engineering Research Centre Revolutionizing Metallic Biomaterials (RMB, USA), and the Nanotechnology and Integrated Bioengineering Centre (NIBEC, Northern Ireland).

Interested candidates should send a CV to patrick.mcgarry@nuigalway.ie

The start date for both positions is September-November 2017.
