As part of the research project Scaling and Uncertainty Modelling in multiphase production (SUM) we announce one PhD position available August 1, 2017.
The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) has funded a 3 year project to BITS Pilani (Goa Campus), India. The project will apply statistical ideas of failure mechanics - at an experimental and analytical level to periodic/lattice composites.

We are looking for highly motivated and creative PhD researchers to study electromechanical transduction at the nanoscale. It is well known that by deforming some materials (piezoelectrics) electricity can be produced. What is a relatively new discovery is that by bending any dielectric at the nanoscale, significant electrical signals can also be generated. This is the so-called flexoelectric effect.
Positions are available to work in cutting edge areas of theoretical and computational solid mechanics. Interested students can later convert this to a formal M.Tech or PhD program.
The candidate will officially be associated with the Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad, India.
