Applications are invited for two Ph.D. positions at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, FL. The research will focus on the modeling and design of lightweight, flexible, smart structures, with application towards deployable spacecraft structures. A combination of computational, experimental, and analytical methods will be utilized in this research.

GEM is actively seeking a Software Engineer with a broad range of experience developing both Web and Desktop Applications. The candidate will be responsible for supporting GEM’s advanced mechanical engineering simulation tools for structural response prediction, design optimization, and failure prediction of advanced composite, metallic, and hybrid structures. A qualified candidate will support multiple Research and Development efforts and will be involved extensively in the implementation, module integration, customization, and testing of novel solution modules.

Two openings are available for Ph.D. candidates in Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology. Students interested in materials modeling are welcome to apply.

A funded PhD position is open for summer or fall 2017 in the Mechanics and Dynamics Laboratory in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Wichita State University. The research program will focus on the design and development of mechanical metamaterials, their application towards aerospace structures, and will involve a combination of analytical, numerical, and experimental methods. The candidate must have a MS in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and a strong background in structural mechanics and dynamics.

• PhD in computational mechanics / applied math / applied physics

• Statistics, Probability theory, Geometry, Graph theory, Reconstruction algorithms (for generating instantiations of virtual specimens) would be a big plus

• Expertise in Linear and Non Linear Finite Element Analysis 

A postdoctoral researcher position is open in my group to work on multi-scale and inverse models for soft tissues and heart valve mechanics. The aim of this research will be to develop models that predict aortic stenosis - the most common valve-related disease that affects 5% of the elderly. The project is funded through the research council of UK, and will provide opportunities of working closely with clinicians and experimental collaborators.
