ERC Starting Grant Research Group recruiting 3 post-doctoral fellows

Submitted by Stephane Bordas on

The European
Research Council funded RealTCut Research Group is seeking three Research
Assistants/Associates over a 5 year period on project: “
Towards real time multiscale simulation of cutting in
non-linear materials with applications to surgical simulation and computer
guided surgery.

“ERC grants aim to support
"frontier research", in other words the pursuit of questions at or
beyond the frontiers of knowledge, without regard for established disciplinary
boundaries.”

PhD studentship in Nanomechanics for European (EEA) students

Submitted by Feodor_Borodich on

Cardiff
University, School of Engineering.

PhD studentships in
Nanomechanics

You will work on nanomechanical modelling of contact, friction and molecular
adhesion at the nano/micro-scales under the supervision of Prof. F.M. Borodich and
Prof. H.P. Evans.  The studies will be applied
to nanotribological systems that are governed by the physical processes applicable
at the nanoscale. These include adhesion caused by van der Waals interactions
and capillary effects, and various surface effects. Fundamental understanding

Looking for a doctoral position in the field of (solid) computational mechanics

Submitted by Nguyen Van Chau on

Hello, My name is Nguyen Van Chau, an engineer at Mitsubishi Motor Company, Japan. I have been working on some projects which relate in structure analysis, fluid analysis for automobile since 2009/01. I am finishing my work and therefore seeking for a doctoral position starting after 2011/12.

My expertise in computational solid mechanics includes:

(1) Structure Analysis (HyperWork, Nastran, Femap).

Postdoctoral position at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University

Submitted by ntrayanova on

A postdoctoral position is available immediately at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins University for work on a project simulating cardiac mechanics in normal and failing hearts. A PhD in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering or related field is required. The candidate is required to have strong expertise in modeling soft tissue mechanics. The  successful candidate is expected to be able to develop code to simulate the contraction of the heart as well as to conduct simulation research on abnormalities in cardiac contraction. Send inquiries to Dr. N.

Multiple Faculty Positions in Mechanical Science and Engineering at UIUC

Submitted by Harley T. Johnson on

The Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is seeking candidates for multiple faculty positions.  We especially seek candidates at the junior level whose primary interests are experimental in nature.  The research areas of interest include energy systems, manufacturing and materials processing, experimental solid mechanics, and bio/MEMS fabrication and design.  One of the open positions may be at the senior level, as part of a strategic excellence hiring program that focuses on energy and sustainability.

Fellowships and Ph.D. position available: Analysis and modeling of the mechanical behavior of 3D nanoparticles superstructures

Submitted by AlbertoBarone on

Colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) form a family of highly advanced building blocks suitable for large scale assembly of novel high-complexity 1D-to-3D superstructures. Their properties and inter-particle interactions, nowadays, can be highly controlled by tailoring their size, shape, composition and surface functionalization.
