The Computational Soft Matter Lab (https://farokhirad.com) at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) has an opening for a fully-funded PhD position in Mechanical Engineering, starting in Spring or Fall 2023.
The successful candidate will conduct research in the areas of multiphase flows and interfacial transport phenomena involving droplet/particle interactions.
Highlights
• A finite-deformation crystal-elastic membrane model for TMD monolayers is presented.
• Strains of the middle surface and two normal-stretches describe the deformation.
• The continuum hyperelastic strain energy is obtained from an interatomic potential.
• The present model matches well with the purely atomistic simulations.
Abstract
Dear All,
Are you interested in becoming a pioneer of novel network-inspired models to predict the properties of heterogeneous materials? Then the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering, Aarhus University, invites you to apply for a 2.5-year postdoc position.
Expected start date and duration of employment
This is a 2.5-year position starting on 01.12.2022 or as soon possible.
Job description
Postdoctoral positions are open in Meng’s group at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Those having (about to get) a PhD degree in the areas of solid/fluid mechanics, wave dynamics, material engineering are welcome to apply. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in smart materials and structures, fluid-structure interaction, as well as noise and vibration control.
The homogenized constitutive models that have been utilized to simulate the behavior of nanostructures are typically based on the Cauchy–Born hypothesis, which seeks the fundamental properties of material via relating atomistic information to an assumed homogeneous deformation field. It is well known that temperature has a profound effect on the validity and size-dependency of the Cauchy-Born hypothesis in finite deformations.
