The research will be on computational and experimental study on engineering and biological materials. A postdoctoral fellow research position is availabe immediately in the Advanced Digital & Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) center at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates. Applicants should demonstrate research capabilities in modeling, experimentation, and testing in the area of additive manufacturing (3D printing). Candidates with research experience related to sandwich panels will be considered with higher priority.

I recently gave a talk to undergraduate engineering students at U.C. Berkekey on advice for applying to graduate schools in the US. The talk is titled "How to Apply to Graduate School and Fail to Get Admitted." The title is intended to be humorous. The audience was one of the most engaging that I have ever encountered and there were lots of requests for the slides.

In this book chapter we discuss some applications of algebraic topology in elasticity. This includes the necessary and sufficient compatibility equations of nonlinear elasticity for non-simply-connected bodies when the ambient space is Euclidean. Algebraic topology is the natural tool to understand the topological obstructions to compatibility for both the deformation gradient F and the right Cauchy-Green strain C. We will investigate the relevance of homology, cohomology, and homotopy groups in elasticity.

We currently have one opening for postdoc position at the Unviersity of Manitoba, Canada in the area of multiscale modeling on High-entropy alloys and functional graded materials.

Aqueousmethylcellulose solutions are fascinating inverse-freezing materials, known to reversibly form gels upon heating. Recently, these materials have been found to undergo this endothermic solidification upon impact. The imapct-induced solidification was shown to occur in the microseconds’ timescale,  setting the path for examining their functionality for shockabsorption purposes.
