5 PhD and postdoc positions in composites @Ghent University, Belgium, Europe

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

The research group Mechanics of Materials and Structures at Ghent University (UGent-MMS) has 5 vacancies for PhD and postdoc research in the field of fibre-reinforced composites. The vacancies are linked to research on composite hydrogen tanks, micromechanical testing of composites and finite element modelling of textile connections. All research will be conducted with leading companies in the field.

PhD (4 years) on micromechanical testing and interface characterization of composites

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

We are looking for a PhD student for a research project on microscale mechanical characterization of fiber reinforced polymer composites using in-situ microscopic techniques. Much more fundamental insights and measurements at the micro-scale are necessary to enable fully predictive multi-scale modelling and faster adaptation of composites. Therefore, we have developed advanced micromechanical test methods for fibre reinforced polymer composites based on in-situ optical and electron microscopy during loading.

PhD (4 years) on experimental characterization of textile materials and their connections

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

We are looking for a PhD student for a research project on textile modelling and characterization. In this project, the main purpose is to develop a multi-scale textile modelling framework that allows accurate simulation of textile manufacturing processes such as yarn unwinding from a bobbin, weft insertion during weaving, stitching and tufting. Besides a strong numerical research focus, there is also an experimental research track focusing on advanced mechanical testing of textile materials and their connections, both on lab-scale and industrial scale (e.g.

Phd / PostDoc position Additive Manufacturing - Polymers

Submitted by Andrei Constan… on

A postdoc or a PhD position are available immediately at the Laboratoire de Mecanique des Solides (Solid Mechanics) at https://www.polytechnique.edu/. The project is focused on understanding the impact of UV polymerization on the constitutive behaviour of printed polymer composites. The position is part of an ongoing collaboration with a german academic partner. The offers are detailed both in english and french on the job site of the CNRS (www.cnrs.fr):

Postdoctoral vacancy (2.5 years) on multi-axial fatigue modelling and testing for 3D printed metal parts

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

The use of 3D printed metal structures is taking a very fast ramp-up in industry. General Electric has demonstrated the possibility of printing titanium fuel injectors for their LEAP engine, EADS has printed a nacelle hinge bracket for the Airbus A320, Boeing is printing plastic inlet ducts for high-altitude aircrafts, hip implants and other prosthetics are exploiting the design freedom of additive manufacturing (AM),...

How to upgrade an older Universal Testing Machine?

Submitted by Deniz Yalcin on

A Universal Testing Machine Retrofit is a system upgrade in which the capabilities and functionality of an outdated and/or broken universal testing machine are improved by pairing them with advanced indicators and replacement components. A system retrofit is commonly performed on but not limited to tensile testing systems, compression testing systems, torsion testing systems, and bend testing systems. Universal testing systems manufactured by Instron, Satec, MTS, Tinius Olsen, Baldwin, Forney, and others are all capable of being upgraded by ADMET’s retrofit service.
