Two PhD positions on programmable materials - SUNY Binghamton

Submitted by Pu Zhang on

We have two PhD positions starting in 8/2019 to work on Mechanics and Manufacturing of Programmable Materials. This project intends to develop new methodology to design and fabricate materials/structures that exhibit programmable morphology and/or properties under external stimuli.

Position 1:  The student is expected to conduct experimental research on programmable materials such as material preparation, 3D/4D printing, hybrid manufacturing, material and structure testing, etc.;

Phd positions - Mechanical Engineering UT Dallas

Submitted by Rodrigo A. Bernal on

Openings are available for PhD. students in the Nanomechanical MUltiphysicals lab at UT-Dallas, with a start date of August 2019. Outstanding candidates may be considered for starting in May 2019.

The research topics are experimental in nature, and cover the areas of nanomechanics, thermal-electrical-mechanical coupling in nanostructures, and in-situ electron microscopy. Previous research experience, specially in mechanics, and experimental skills are highly desirable. For more details about our research please visit: www.utdallas.edu/nml

Two PhD Positions in Additive Manufacturing at the University of South Carolina

Submitted by lyuan on

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina is expanding its research portfolio to metal Additive Manufacturing. Two PhD positions are available in the Additive Manufacturing Lab led by Dr. Lang Yuan. Dr. Yuan’s research focuses on the fundamental understanding and prediction of microstructure and defect formation of metallic alloys during solidification processes. His profile can be found though the link here.

3 PhD positions (4 years) on ultrasound inspection of layered materials

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

Ghent University (Belgium) has three open PhD positions of each 4 years on ultrasound inspection of layered materials, ranging from composites over coated pipelines to wood. More information can be found on http://www.composites.ugent.be/PhD_job_vacancies_PhD_job_positions_comp….

Postdoctoral vacancy (3 years) on automated software workflow for medical application of 3D printed technologies

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

3D printing or Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies carry the promise of revolutionizing the quality and efficiency of healthcare. However, the required technologies, even when available, are currently too fragmented to be integrated into routine, affordable and streamlined solutions that can benefit a large number of patients. The challenge thereby is to deliver 3D printing technologies that enable:

Postdoctoral vacancy (2 years) on high-frequency vibration techniques for non-destructive inspection of 3D printed metal parts

Submitted by wvpaepeg on

The use of 3D printed metal structures is taking a very fast ramp-up in industry. General Electric has demonstrated the possibility of printing titanium fuel injectors for their LEAP engine, EADS has printed a nacelle hinge bracket for the Airbus A320, Boeing is printing plastic inlet ducts for high-altitude aircrafts, hip implants and other prosthetics are exploiting the design freedom of additive manufacturing (AM),..

A preliminary document on my fresh new approach to QM

Submitted by Ajit R. Jadhav on

Hello, World

Here is a document that jots down, in a brief, point-wise manner, the elements of my new approach to understanding quantum mechanics.

Please note that the writing is very much at a preliminary stage. It is very much a work in progress. However, it does jot down many essential ideas.

I am uploading the document at iMechanica just to have an externally verifiable time-stamp to it. Further versions will also be posted at this thread.
