Peeling by pulling: In situ SEM blister test on nanoflakes

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

Dear iMechanicians,

I want to share our recent work published in Nano Letters on the blister test of nanoflakes. The title, abstract, and links for data are as follows:

Dear iMechanicians,

I want to share our recent work published in IJSS on the mechanics of spontaneously formed 2D crystal bubbles.

Droplets on lubricated surfaces: The slow dynamics of skirt formation

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

Dear iMechanicians,

I would like to share our recent work published in Phys. Rev. Fluids on the statics and dynamics of droplets on lubricated surfaces:

Droplets on lubricated surfaces: The slow dynamics of skirt formation

Poking/pressurizing thin elastic sheets with sliding boundaries

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

Dear iMechanicians, I would like to share our recent work on the poking and bulging of elastic thin sheets that were inspired by the classical indentation test and bulge test. Under clamped boundaries, there have been well-established theories and well-controlled experiments in this field.

Mechanics at the interfaces of 2D materials

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

Dear iMechanica researchers,

I'd like to share an opinion paper that was written by Rui Huang, Kenneth Liechti, Nanshu Lu, and I for Current Opinion in Solid State & Materials Science. The aim is to discuss the mechanics research on 2D material interfaces in terms of recent developments and appeared challenges and opportunities. Here is the link; Below, I also attached a copy of the manuscript and pasted the Abstract.

Bending of Multilayer van der Waals Materials

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

Dear colleagues, I'd like to share our recent work on blister testing of multilayer 2D materials that gives a direct measurement of Young's modulus and bending rigidity of a multilayer (~10-70 layers). Materials involved include graphene, MoS2, and hBN.

Strain Engineering of 2D Materials: Issues and Opportunities at the Interface

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

In this progress report, we reviewed recent advances in strategies for applying mechanical strain into 2D materials and recent state‐of‐the‐art characterizations of interface mechanics for 2D material–substrate systems.

Interface-Governed Deformation of Nanobubbles and Nanotents Formed by Two-Dimensional Materials

Submitted by Zhaohe Dai on

In this paper, we experimentally characterize a simple and unified power law for the profiles of a variety of nanobubbles and nanotents formed by 2D materials such as graphene and MoS2 layers. https://journals.aps.org/prl/abstract/10.1103/PhysRevLett.121.266101
